It was a slow week in the Porter household; each day worse than the last.

Cameron was outdoing himself. Every time Abby walked away from him, he got a small thrill from the way her posture sagged. The added noise from the garage renovations made sure that all the residents were walking on eggshells.

Zach’s mood changed depending on how bad Abby’s seemed to be. He absolutely hated not being able to do anything about his relationship, but honestly believed that he was doing the right thing in keeping the switch a secret.

On Sunday Cameron completely ignored Abby, no matter what she did. When she walked into a room he would either leave or pretend she didn’t exist. By the end of the day Abby was so mad she went to bed early without speaking to anyone.

Monday, expecting “Zach” to apologize, Abby sought him out and asked Cameron what was going on with him. He told her simply, “You’re the one with the problem, skank,” and left her standing there fighting tears. That night she went to Michael. Zach walked into the room by accident halfway through Mikey’s comforting talk and was floored when he saw the tears streaming down his girlfriends’ face. He practically forced her trust him, because there was no chance in hell of him leaving the room while she was so distraught.

She was extremely uncomfortable talking to Zach at first. She hadn’t said a word to the man since the one dance at Nathan’s show. But after a considerable amount of proving himself to actually care about what was going on, Abby started venting to him whenever they were alone.

“I mean for god’s sake, what did I do?” she yelled for the millionth time while pacing the floor in Cameron’s bedroom on Wednesday night. The week was barely halfway over and looking at Abby, Zach safely assumed that his entire relationship was screwed. In addition to the looming break-up, Zach couldn’t stop stressing out over why he and Cameron hadn’t switched back yet. Nothing like this had ever happened before; the lack of precedent had him biting down to his nail beds.

Cameron worried too, and fought to tell Abby before the week was up, but Zach wasn’t budging; he didn’t agree to let Cameron use his body to torture Abby further just so they could give up halfway through it.

“You haven’t done anything, and will you stop pacing? You’re leaving a trail and I’m worried about whether or not your insurance covers falling through the floor,” Zach joked, watching her from the bed.

Abby shot him a dirty look. She ignored his ribbing and continued to wear a path in the carpet. “Look, I know something is wrong. If I didn’t do anything then what the fuck is he acting like this for?” She almost added that “Zach” was saying some of the exact same things that Cameron had always told her, but didn’t want to remind him that he was supposed to hate her. If fighting with the man she thought she loved had an upside, it would be this new attitude from her arch nemesis.

“I don’t know,” Zach lied. He felt the guilt, but didn’t let it sour his tone. “Just wait him out please? I’m sure he’ll get over whatever this is in a few days.”

She looked directly into the light green eyes he was borrowing. Tears were building up in her soft blue ones. “A few days? Cameron I don’t think I can take it for much longer!” Zach knew what she wanted to add. That Zach was the only one who helped her get through Cameron’s torture. That she didn’t trust Cameron enough to let him be the one to help her through Zach’s. That there was nothing he could say right now that would make everything better because all she needed was Zach.
