A/N Ugh, so I finally made it home! I was trapped at my parents house for a million days it feels like. I love my mom and Step-Dad like no other, but they get to be too much sometimes. Plus I wasn't able to update my story for you guys! I hope you like it, because I personally thought there was a really sweet moment between Zach and Abby, for those of you rooting for him ;)
“HAPPY BIRTHDAY CAMERON!!!!!” several voices yelled at once.
Zach shot awake in bed, utterly disoriented. His eyes flew over the room before realizing it was just Nathan, Michael, his mother, his father, and Vic. “My birthday’s in December,” he said sleepily before falling back onto the pillow he’d been drooling on.
Snippets of a colorful dream faded from his mind as Vic sat on his stomach and patted his shoulder. “Sorry, Cameron, but your birthday is today,” he said.
“But its April,” he groaned under his younger brother’s weight.
Michael hit him lightly in the face. “Wake up Cameron. It’s your birthday.” Zach finally understood. Today was April 5th. It was the real Cameron’s birthday. Shit.
“Oh, right. Thanks guys,” he said to everyone. He rubbed his eyes and shoved Vic onto the floor so he could sit up.
“Good, you’ve slept long enough. It’s already noon!” Kate exclaimed.
David patted him on the shoulder. “Another year young, big guy. I can’t believe that you’re all getting so old now. It makes me feel like such a dinosaur. I remember when you and Zach first met. You boys were awfully strange back then. You guys were what, eleven or twelve? What age is it this time around?” Zach had to stop and think about it. How old was Cameron?
“Uh, I’m 22?” he said confusedly.
“Ten years,” Kate said with happiness in her eyes. “You know we love you like one of our own sons, don’t you?”
Zach reached out and grabbed her hand. “Of course Momma Kate. I love you too.” He squeezed his mother’s fingers before getting out of bed. “Where are Abby and Ca-Zach?” he asked.
“Zachary was asleep on the couch when we came up. Abby was in the shower. I bet she’s out now though,” Kate replied. “Don’t worry about them though, today is your day. I made you some lunch downstairs, and later the others are coming over for a barbeque party. We got cake!” she finished excitedly.
Why did Cameron sleep on the couch? Zach thought. “Let’s go get some lunch then,” he said, wanting to wake up the real birthday boy and see his girlfriend who was currently not speaking to him because he was in this damn body.
When he made it to the first floor Zach saw his own face relaxed in sleep. Cameron looked so peaceful for once that Zach almost didn’t want to wake him up.
But of course he did anyway. Zach approached the couch and lay down directly on top of Cameron. He never realized how much smaller he was than Cameron until he was literally in his shoes.
Cameron began to shift around, his head nearly banging into Zach’s. “Uhh,” he groaned. Zach waited patiently for his best friend’s eyes to open, trying not to laugh. His family all passed him on the way into the kitchen. Michael and Nathan both joined the dog pile on the couch, their added weight making Cameron wiggle around again.
Finally, he opened his eyes. When they were focused, Cameron took in a deep breath of surprise and fear. In his dream he had been in his own body again. The shock of seeing his own face directly in front of him scared him before he realized it was just a dream. “Dammit Zach,” he barely managed to mutter with his gravelly morning voice.
