A/N Hey guys *sheepish voice* I didn't mean to make anyone wait so long for this chapter. I'm sorry :/ But it's a little longer than the majority, so that's better right? School started up again and I'm busier than ever. But I won't stop writing until I finish this story! Thank you all for continuing to read, I hope you like it!
“Hey Cameron,” Abby said, walking slowly up to Zach. He turned around to see her glancing shyly at the ground. “Do you think we could talk for a minute?”
He nodded and walked away from everyone, with Abby just a step behind him. “What’s up?” he asked when they’d gotten out of hearing range.
“I wanted to talk about earlier. When I sort of freaked out on you. I was being crazy. And I want to apologize, for last night at Danielle’s. I didn’t mean to insult you or anything; I think you’re really a great guy. I’d be lucky to have someone like you if I didn’t have Zach, and I wasn’t trying to shove you off.”
Zach tilted her chin up so she would have to look at him and smiled warmly. “You don’t have anything to apologize for. I know why you didn’t want to talk to me, and I understand about the shirt thing. It’s something special isn’t it? Between you and Zach?”
She nodded and returned the smile. “Are you guys okay then?” he asked. She nodded again. Good, Zach thought. “I’m really happy that you guys worked things out. That’s great Abby, really.”
“Thanks Cameron,” she smiled. “And I got you something. Happy birthday.” Abby pulled the copy of The Epic of Gilgamesh from behind her back and handed it to him.
Zach smiled at her and tore it from the wrapping paper. “It’s perfect!” he exclaimed, knowing that Cameron would love it. “Thank you so much Abby. I’ll add it to the collection.” Abby grinned at him widely and stood on her tiptoes to kiss him on the cheek. He gave her a side-hug, but then she walked away to stand beside Cameron at the grill. He watched her for a minute with wistful eyes, but her place was soon taken by Nathan.
“Hey bro,” Zach muttered. “Enjoying the party?”
Nathan smiled at him. “Are you?”
Zach glanced at Abby again. “I could think of a thing or two that would make it a little better.”
“Like being back in your own body so you can be with your girlfriend while Cameron is the one celebrating his birthday?”
“Something like that,” Zach smirked. “I’m glad you could make it out though. I miss hanging out with you, no matter what body I’m in.”
Nathan playfully punched him in the arm. “You might mind it if it was my girlfriend.”
Zach laughed. “I can barely handle being a different guy, so I’ll thank the body-switching-Gods for not letting that happen.”
They laughed at his joke for a minute before Nathan carried on. “While you were talking to Abby I gave Cameron his birthday present from me. Two tickets to the OneRepublic concert. Next Saturday. Do you think there’s any chance that everything will be back to normal by then?”
“Probably not,” Zach muttered. He took a deep breath while he watched Cameron and Abby together. His friend seemed relaxed, and they were laughing about something Cameron was doing. He had a large balloon filled with helium pressed up against his lips, sucking in lungful’s of the contaminated air. When he spoke, his eyes crossed and Abby would only laugh harder. Zach couldn’t hear what Cameron was saying, but the noise from Abby’s carefree happiness was like a gong sounding in his head. “I’ll just have Cam tell Abby that I wanted them to have the tickets instead. That way Cameron is the one who actually gets to use them.”
