A/N Well guys, here is another chapter. I really hope you like this one. I struggled at first to start it off, but I got some help and wrote it out and here we go.
Sitting here in limbo,
Waiting for the tide to turn.
Yeah, now, sitting here in limbo,
So many things I’ve got to learn.
Meanwhile they’re putting up a resistance,
But I know that my faith will lead me on.
Zach’s iPod played the easy tune by Jimmy Cliff, silent to the rest of the bus, but over powerful coming from his headphones.
Three weeks.
It had been three long weeks since Vic’s graduation. Three weeks since Cameron and Abby had stopped fighting. Three weeks of keeping his promise not to touch her, be too friendly, too forward, too obviously in love with her.
He was going insane.
Sitting here in limbo,
Waiting for the dice to roll.
Yeah, now, sitting here in limbo,
Still got some time to search my soul.
Meanwhile they’re putting up a resistance,
But I know that my faith will lead me on.
Cameron sat on a long couch, Abby tucked into his side. They were both reading different books. His left arm draped around her shoulder, and when he needed to turn the page he purposefully used that one to do it. His forearm covered her eyes, the muscles slightly squeezing her and she would laugh and poke him in the ribs.
Zach thought he would burn in hell for the amount of jealousy coursing through his veins. It was all so unfair to him. He’d been doing so well avoiding her but nothing had changed. Whatever universal force had done this to him and Cameron hadn’t decided to change them back. Cameron had been slowly but surely monopolizing more and more of Abby’s time and so Zach rarely got to speak with her, just as friends.
He was using all of this extra time to do some research. Strangely, as it was nearly six months that he’d been in this body, he hadn’t once considered that there was a possibility that other people had switched bodies with someone else before. Maybe all the movies out there about it were based off of true stories. He watched every one of them that he could find online, and the common theme between all of them was that the people who switched had to make amends somehow.
Zach had thought about that repeatedly. He was sure that there were no other resentful feelings inside him toward Cameron now. He was jealous, of course, but he still couldn’t find it in him to hate his best friend. So that couldn’t possibly be the reason. An idea had been forming in his mind that he just couldn’t shake loose. He wasn’t sure if he should go along with it or not, but based on his findings it might be the only way.
Maybe it wasn’t Cameron and Zach who needed to make amends. Maybe – and he hated to think this – but maybe it was Zach, Cameron, and Abby.
Zach turned the volume up on his iPod even louder, trying to drown out the unwelcome thoughts.
She’d been there when they switched bodies. She was the cause of the argument that turned them. She was the only one intimately involved in the situation who had no idea what was going on. If they told her, if they made her believe it, maybe they could switch back.
