A/N So I thought I wouldn't like any chapter better than 14, but I was wrong. I was totally blanking on what to do, and then this morning I was laying in bed thinking, "How will I make this work?" And then my writers block went away :) Hope you guys like it!
“Amber?” Abby asked. “What are you doing here?”
Cameron looked at the girl named Amber. She was tall, and just as beautiful as Abby, with long golden-brown hair, greenish-blue eyes and a slender frame. She walked over and sat on Abby’s other side, just as Zach had been about to do. He looked at her in a frustrated way and Cameron guessed that he’d been upset with her for a while.
“I came over to your house looking for you. The guys said you weren’t home, but then that one got a call and started freaking out. I heard him tell the others what happened and I asked to come with them.”
Michael rolled his eyes and Abby saw it. “Something tells me you didn’t just ask.” Amber winked and shot off a smile. Abby laughed and asked, “Why were you looking for me? I mean you could’ve waited until work tomorrow. Although I guess I should call in now,” she gestured to her injured wrist.
“I need a favor.” Zach took in a deep breath, trying to steady himself. What could she want now?
“What is it?” Abby said sympathetically.
“My apartment is being fumigated starting tomorrow. I need a place to stay for a week.”
Suddenly Abby looked unsure. “That isn’t up to me, I’m sorry. It’s Zach’s parents’ house. They only let me stay because of Zach.” She shot Cameron a quick smile and turned back to her friend. But Amber was staring at Cameron.
“What do you say Zach?” she asked Cameron.
“Uh,” he replied. He glanced at Zach to see what he thought. Zach shook his head just barely with a stern expression. “I’ll ask them?” he said, not wanting to sound rude.
“You can’t just ask him that, you don’t even know him,” Abby teased.
“I don’t really have anyone else to ask though,” Amber said somberly. Cameron guessed she’d already exhausted all of her other options.
“I’m sure it’ll be okay for just a week,” he told her. Then he pulled out Zach’s phone and texted Kate. Zach looked at him murderously.
“Can I talk to you for a second Zach?” he asked. Cameron stood up after giving Abby’s good hand a quick squeeze. He was led away to an empty hallway. “What are you doing?” Zach demanded.
“I’m helping out a friend of Abby’s. Why, what’s wrong with her?”
Zach rubbed his face, aggravated. “I think she might want to stay with us for…other reasons.”
“Like what?”
“Well Mike is the one who answered the door, but I could hear what she was saying from the living room. She didn’t sound all that interested in the subject until I walked up. She looked like she liked what she saw,” he said, gesturing to Cameron’s body.
“So? What’s the big deal with that? She thinks I’m hot, and I can’t exactly say she isn’t pretty. You should ask her out for me.” Cameron suddenly saw the genius behind the train of thought. If Zach went out with Amber for him, he’d have a girlfriend to take his mind off of Abby when they finally switched back.
