PART FOUR
Dumbledore's Funeral

" y/n's point of view "

THE MORNING OF Dumbledore's funeral started with breakfast in the Great Hall.

The throne-like chair that sat in the middle of the staff table was kept empty, for Dumbledore, but a few of the other empty seats were filled.

Rufus Scrimgeour had taken the seat that had usually been occupied by Snape. He had a small group of ministry officials with him, and one member of that group had the unmistakable red hair of a Weasley.

I knew Percy had seen me. In fact, we had made eye contact.

But then he turned his head away and took off his horn-rimmed glasses to clean the lenses with the sleeve of his robes.

I wondered if it was because he remembered being attacked by mashed parsnips at Christmas.

The Great Hall had an irregular silence over it as everyone ate, something I hadn't seen since Cedric was killed.

The only thing giving my morning any kind of happiness was the occasional buzz from my Quaffle necklace.

Then soon Professor McGonagall rose from her seat and the little noise that there had been in the hall subdued.

"It is nearly time." She spoke, her voice echoing through the hall. "Please follow your Heads of House out into the grounds. Gryffindors, after me."

Professor McGonagall looked down the table until she met my eyes, and she - very subtly - gestured for me to walk with her.

And as we walked, I realized I had never actually gone to a real funeral.

I went to the memorial that was held for Cedric in the Great Hall two years earlier, but that was the closest I had experienced.

My father didn't even have a funeral. There wasn't a body to bury.

We walked towards the lake, where hundreds of chairs had been set out in rows.

I looked to who was already filling out the chairs.

Mad-Eye Moody, Kingsley Shacklebolt. Tonks, whose hair was no longer that sad mousy brown, but now it's usual vibrant bubblegum pink, and Remus, who was holding Tonk's hand.

That made me smile. I was happy for him, for them.

Then I saw Arthur and Molly, Bill and Fleur, and finally Fred and George.

As everyone started to take their seats, I headed straight for the twins, dropping into the empty seat next to Fred as quickly as possible.

He had barely turned his head towards me when I was connecting my arms around his neck and hugging him tightly.

"Y/N, hey." He greeted quietly and I pulled back to meet his eyes.
