"YOU HAVE FOUGHT valiantly. Lord Voldemort knows how to value bravery."

I was unsure how long I had been crying in Fred's arms when Voldemort's voice had returned, so close yet so far away.

"Yet you have sustained heavy losses. If you continue to resist me, you will all die, one by one." His cold voice spoke. "I do not wish this to happen. Every drop of magical blood spilled is a loss and a waste. Lord Voldemort is merciful. I command my forces to retreat, immediately."

The Death Eaters who had been clumped on the ground after we had attacked them all seemed to come to at the same time and were gone within seconds.

"You have one hour. Dispose of your dead with dignity. Treat your injured." I looked down at Fred's bandaged leg. "I speak now, Harry Potter, directly to you."

A few other students had come running down the corridor and stopped beside Dean, looking down at Remus and Tonks.

"You have permitted your friends to die for you rather than face me yourself. I shall wait for one hour in the Forbidden Forest. If, at the end of that hour, you have not come to me, have not given yourself up, then battle recommences. This time, I shall enter the fray myself, Harry Potter, and I shall find you, and I shall punish every last man, woman, and child who has tried to conceal you from me. One hour."

I managed to get up onto my feet again as Voldemort's voice faded away. I couldn't bear to look at Remus and Tonks, but forced myself to conjure up two stretchers. The few students around us slowly lifted Tonks, then Remus, onto them and lifted them up.

I helped Fred up and we followed Dean and the others carrying Remus and Tonks all the way to the Great Hall.

When we arrived, there were already bodies in lines on the floor, and Madam Pomfrey was helping fix up injuries.

Professor McGonagall was nearby, checking on students and she held a very sad expression on her face. When she saw Remus and Tonks as they were laid down on the ground, she looked down and let out a sigh.

She then turned her head to where Fred and I were standing.

"Miss Black, Mr. Weasley, I'm glad you two are okay." She told us, patting Fred's shoulder and giving me a sad smile.

"Have you seen George anywhere, Professor?" Fred asked.

"Unfortunately not yet." She replied and Fred begun to look uneasy.

We sat down next to Remus and Tonks's bodies and waited for more people to enter the hall.

It filled pretty quickly, George and Lee some of the first to come in, carrying a body between them. George's eyes were a puffy red, and Lee's still had tears in them.

As the two men grew closer, Fred jumped to his feet, then wincing at his leg, before he hurried over to his twin.

But Fred's face fell and he went silent when he saw the body George and Lee just lied down on the ground. He glanced back to me, then started talking quietly with George.

I didn't know if I wanted to get up. I felt horrible enough as it is, and I didn't want to know who it was.

As Dean ran over to Seamus, who had just entered with Neville and Ginny, I decided to stand up and walk up to my friends.

"What's happened?" I asked, and then my eyes fell on the body that lied before us.

The body of one of my best friends, Lewis Harper, was lying lifeless on the ground.

His eyes were closed, cuts littered his face, and blood had matted his hair. He was dead.

"Oh." I choked the word out. I didn't know how much more of this I could take.

"Oliver." Lee let out a sigh of relief as Wood came and joined us, and the two hugged.

"I'm so glad you're -" Oliver's words disappeared when his eyes found Lewis's body.

We all stood around him in silence, and I was holding onto Fred tightly. I didn't want to let him go, not when I almost lost him.

"Oh, no." Lee said and we watched as Angelina and Alicia came running in.

Their eyes searched the Great Hall until they fell on us. Both of their expressions changed to concern when they noticed the looks on our faces.

As they approached, George moved towards Angelina, asking if she was okay.

"Where's Lewis?" Alicia asked, and nobody answered her. "Guys?"

She stopped beside Oliver and looked down, and I could see the exact moment her heart broke.

She broke down in tears and Angelina rushed past George to comfort her.

And a minute later Harry, Ron and Hermione entered.

Ron came running up to the twins, and hugged Fred tightly, which seemed to catch George off guard.

I hurried past everyone else to get to Harry.

He looked sad, he looked guilty, and he looked exhausted. I pulled him into a hug and he was quick to hug me back.

"Are you okay?" I asked him.

"Yeah. Are you? How's Fred?" Harry still looked out of it.

"He's fine. Harry, you can't go into the Forest." I told him. "Promise me you won't."

He didn't reply, he just looked past me and around the Great Hall. His eyes stopped and I turned around to see he had spotted Remus and Tonks.

"Harry..." I started and he met my eyes with a sad look.

He looked like his mind was moving a thousand miles a minute.

I turned around to look back at my friends, where now just Lee, Oliver, Angelina and a sobbing Alicia were.

It hurt me to walk past them, but I made my way further into the hall until I found the Weasleys and Hermione all sitting together, Hermione and Ron holding hands.

"Where's Harry?" Ron asked me.

"He -" I looked back to see Harry wasn't in the Hall anymore, he was gone.

I sat down next to Fred, a little confused and concerned, and Ron and Hermione jumped to their feet, leaving the hall pretty quickly.
