I FELT MYSELF flying through the air as smoke, dust and rubble filled it. My wand was still in my hand, though my grip loose, and I had no time to cast a spell that would cushion the fall. So I held my arms in front of my face as I landed on the hard stone ground with a thud.

My ears were ringing from the explosion and I could feel blood dripping down the side of my face from when I had landed. My eyes struggled to focus as I sat up, pain searing through my body, especially my head and wrist.

As I got a look of the wall, I noticed the entire side of the castle had been blast open, coating half the corridor in large stone chunks, the cold night air blowing in at full force.

Harry, who had landed beside me, had a large bloody gash on his cheek as we both struggled to our feet, taking in our surroundings.

Then there was a yell, an agonising scream of pain.

Hermione was in the wreckage, pulling herself up shakily, and I turned away from her to the three redheaded brothers off to my side. One of them was screaming, the ringing in my ears wasn't doing me any favours in telling me who.

As I grew closer, I realised Percy and Ron were leaning over Fred, who was lying in the rubble.

Never had my heart dropped faster than it did in that moment.

"No - no - no!" A voice was shouting and I realized it was Percy. "No! Fred! No!"

A sickening feeling appeared in my stomach and my heart ached when I took in the scene before me.

Percy was shaking Fred, and Ron was already kneeling beside them.

Fred's eyes were wide open, and he still had a smile etched on his face, but he wasn't moving.

His eyes were glassed over, unseeing, like Cedric's had been several years earlier.

While the war was still raging around us, my world had ended right then and there.

And I just couldn't believe it. There was no way Fred Weasley could possibly be dead.

But as I dropped to my knees beside my husband, I found it to be true.

We had only just started our future together, and now it was over.

But it could't be. It wasn't true because Fred Weasley couldn't die. He shouldn't have. He wouldn't do that to me.

I was frozen as I stared down at my husband's lifeless body. Around me, people were yelling, screaming, there were explosions and all sorts of other sounds, but I ignored all of them.

Curses came flying through the hole in the wall, hitting the wall behind us. The others had dodged them, Harry shouting at us to get down, but I didn't move, I couldn't move.

I just collapsed on top of Fred, tears streaming down my face as I sobbed into his chest.

"Percy!" Harry was yelling and I could feel a hand tugging on my arm, but I pulled it away. "Y/N! Y/N, you can't do anything for him! We're going to -"

There was a scream from Hermione, and as stupid as it was, I didn't get up, or even look. I couldn't let go of Fred.

"It brought friends! Let's move, NOW!"

I finally looked up when I felt Fred's body moving beneath me. Harry had begun lifting him from under the armpits. Percy had then finally gotten up and grabbed onto Fred's legs.

I stumbled after them down the corridor.

"Here." Harry said and he and Percy lowered Fred down in a niche where a suit of armour once stood.

Harry put his hand on my shoulder for a moment, squeezed it, before he ran off after Ron and Hermione. Percy went off running after a Death Eater and I was left alone.

I slid down against the small wall opposite Fred in the niche and couldn't help it as I continued to sob.

Blood had been dripping down my face, into my eye, from a cut on my forehead, but I couldn't even feel that pain. I reached out to touch Fred's hand, but immediately recoiled at the sudden cold. He was so cold.

After a minute of sitting with him and sobbing, I felt sick. I couldn't do it anymore, couldn't bear that pain.

So I pulled myself to my feet, my vision blurred with tears and blood, and my wrist still stinging with pain.

I went down hallway after hallway, different destroyed corridors I used to walk through every day.

All the faces I passed looked the same, messy clumps of unrecognisable flesh until I finally turned a corner and saw Remus and Tonks duelling a handful of Death Eaters hand-in-hand.

Remus turned his head, and a look of worry flashed over his features when he saw me, and he continued to duel with the Death Eaters in front of him.

Relief washed over me upon seeing them and I forced myself to move faster towards them, but then it was like my heart was ripped out and crushed all over again.

"Avada Kedavra!" The voices of multiple Death Eaters yelled.

"NO!" I screamed out as my godfather and his wife fell. Dead before they even touched the ground.

With a shaky hand, I raised my wand and send whatever spells and curses I could think of at the Death Eaters.

"Confringo! Levioso! Depulso!" I shouted. "Petrificus Totalus! Bombarda! Stupefy! Crucio!"

The last one slipped out when I had pointed my wand at the wizard who had fired the killing curse at Remus, and I felt no guilt as the man doubled over in pain.

"Blimey, Y/N." Dean's voice choked out from behind me and I turned to see him standing with his wand drawn and mouth agape.

I just shook my head and exhaled, slumping down on the ground against the wall. Remus and Tonks were lying on the floor beside me, still holding hands.

First Fred, now Remus and Tonks. And I had no idea if any more of my friends were hurt, or if they were even alive.

I started crying again as Dean hurried over to their bodies on the ground.

This hurt me more than when I had found out Sirius had died, maybe it was just because this one I actually witnessed, or maybe it was because while Sirius Black might have technically been my father, Remus Lupin had been my Dad.
