"YOU HAVE FOUGHT valiantly. Lord Voldemort knows how to value bravery."

I was unsure how long I had been crying against the wall when Voldemort's voice had returned, so close yet so far away.

"Yet you have sustained heavy losses. If you continue to resist me, you will all die, one by one." His cold voice spoke. "I do not wish this to happen. Every drop of magical blood spilled is a loss and a waste. Lord Voldemort is merciful. I command my forces to retreat, immediately."

The Death Eaters who had been clumped on the ground after I had attacked them all seemed to come to at the same time and were gone within seconds.

"You have one hour. Dispose of your dead with dignity. Treat your injured." I looked down at my sore wrist. "I speak now, Harry Potter, directly to you."

A few other students had come running down the corridor and stopped beside Dean, looking down at Remus and Tonks.

"You have permitted your friends to die for you rather than face me yourself. I shall wait for one hour in the Forbidden Forest. If, at the end of that hour, you have not come to me, have not given yourself up, then battle recommences. This time, I shall enter the fray myself, Harry Potter, and I shall find you, and I shall punish every last man, woman, and child who has tried to conceal you from me. One hour."

I managed to get up onto my feet again as Voldemort's voice faded away. I couldn't bear to look at Remus and Tonks, but forced myself to conjure up two stretchers. The few students around us slowly lifted Tonks, then Remus, onto them and lifted them up.

Dean and the others begun carrying Remus and Tonks and heading towards the Great Hall.

But I couldn't bring myself to go too.

Instead I found myself wandering the corridors, sick to my stomach knowing where I was going.

I turned corners, stepping over rubble and glass with each step, until I reached the corridor with the large gaping hole from where the air had exploded when the wall had burst.

But Fred wasn't there anymore.

While the realistic part of me knew it was likely his body had been found and taken away, to the Great Hall most likely, another part of me was hoping he stood up and walked away himself.

I stared down at the niche where Fred's body had been only an hour before, and had to drag my feet to walk away to the Great Hall.

I was dreading having to see him. Only because I knew he wouldn't be able to see me back.

I wish I knew that seeing him tonight would be the last time I ever would.
