SHORT: Dinner with the Whites
Emerald just finished putting on her clothes and was now getting ready to walk out the house. She decided to keep it simple and nice on this Sunday. Her body was cascaded in a pair of light wash denim skinny jeans and a simple flowy whit tank. She put her hear up in a top knot and her face was bare. She grab her keys off the table that sat by the door. Getting in her, she pulled the route up on her phone and went her way. She decided to keep the radio off and just listen to what was going on outside of her as she drove. It was something about Sunday that she wanted to keep her surrounding pure and peaceful.
After 30 minutes of driving, google maps informed her that she needed to make a left and her destination would be on the right. She followed the direction and she saw that her destination wasn't just on the right, but a huge house awaited her presence. She parked her car on the side because she didn't want to pull up in their driveway. That parking was interrupted with her phone ringing, Mr. White. "Hello." "Em park in the driveway. It's not rude down here you know." she laughed, "Okay." They hung and she backed up the car up to pull in the driveway. Em grabbed her phone and clutch that sat in the passenger seat. Going towards the trunk, she pulled out a gift. It was Mr. White's favorite fruit and cheese platter. As she walked up towards the door, Mr. White stood there shaking his head. "So, you think parking your car in the driveway is rude but come bearing gifts." Em smiled shrugging her shoulders, "Blame my mother." He took the platter out her hand as he opened the door for her. "Thank you for inviting me. The food smells so good." "Thank you for coming. If you didn't Tina was going blame me." They both laughed giving each other a side hug before proceeding to the kitchen.
Emerald looked around the nice house as they walked further in. It was nicely decorate. It was big but they managed to make it feel homey, which that all that matters. They walked in the kitchen and there was Tina stirring and turning off pots. "Tina." Mr. White said walking up on his wife. "She comes bearing gifts." She turned around smiling, "Fruit and cheese your favorite. Hey, Emerald glad you came." She said walking towards Emerald to give me a hug. "I'm glad too. The food smells great." She said pulling away from their hug. "I try, but the food is ready. Would you mind helping setting up the table?" "Oh no problem, where are the plates and stuff?" Emerald asked putting down her clutch and putting her phone in her back pocket. "My son is in the dining room with everything but knowing him he sitting there on that phone. Can you help him, hun?" Emerald nodded while smiling looking over at Mr. White sigh. Emerald walked out the kitchen towards what she suspected to be the dining area. She was right there was a long table made of wood and nicely stained the detail of the table is what caught her attention almost making her forget what she was supposed to be doing.
The sound of a deep voice took her out, "Did the shipment come in?" She looked up and saw the back of a tall gentleman on the phone and sounded like it was urgent. She cleared her throat to see if that would get his attention. It didn't. She decided to just walk towards the table and start to set it. Hopefully, the sound of plates, forks, and knives would get his attention. "Let me call you back. Ma I told you... Oh" He said turning around with the stuck face. Emerald looked up at him, "Hello, I'm Emerald." She said sticking her hand out for a hand shake. He smiled and took her hand shaking it, "Oh the guest of honor. Nice to have someone new at the table," She nodded, "Yeah nice to get a home cooked meal. Your mother wanted me to help you set the table. She knew you didn't start." He chuckled, "Yeah, the struggle. Old habits are hard to get rid of." Emerald nodded simply as she continued to do the task at hand. He joined her and started to do what he was supposed to have been done. "So, are you from here?" "No, DC. I'm down here working for the summer." "Just the summer," He asked looking at her confused after they finished putting the stuff on the table. "Yeah, I'm a student. So, this is a summer internship." "Em, I told you about that internship mess. This is your job." Mr. White said coming in interrupted their conversation. "According to your father," Emerald said sarcastic. Mr. White's son noticed her sense of humor and laughed, "Someone time enough, Pop." He said. "Yeah, yeah son, go get some of the food off the counter. Em you can sit down. I see you sat up the table nicely." "I did, I did." Emerald said laughing as the son left the room. "So, I see you and Clint have gotten familiar." She shook her head a little, "Not to familiar seeing how I'm just learning his name." Mr. White chuckled, "The boy ain't even tell you his name. I bet he knew who you was." Emerald smiled softly, "Yeah, something like that."
