I was sitting in the library trying to get some work done when I noticed Em walking around looking for a seat. I don't know why every time I see her, I have the urge to talk to her knowing her attitude sucked. I understood that she probably didn't want to to be friendly with everyone but she literally can't even be cordial. I moved my stuff on one side as she walked passed me trying to see if there were any other empty tables. "You can share this table with me," I said looking over at her. She turned looking at the table and the rest of the library. "Thank you," she said sitting down on the other side. She pulled all her stuff out her book bag as I took a glimpse at some if the books she had. She was a business school student I figured out by looking but one book caught my attention the most. Island beneath Sea. It stood out because it was a textbook. I heard her clear her throat as to say ninja stop staring. I got back to my work as she started hers.

We had to be there for at least a complete hour before either one of us looked away from our computer. I had this paper to do which honestly I wasn't feeling at all. How much can one write on Socrates when he gets killed at the end of it all. I decided to look up and just take a break. I looked over to see Emerald focused on her computer screen writing down notes. I didn't notice it before but this was actually my first time not really seeing her put together. Usually, I see her with her hair out and a whole outfit. Instead, she has her hair up in a bun and a big T-shirt hanging off her shoulder. She looked over at before I could look away, "Don't you have some work to do?" "Taking a break." "I guess," she said going back to her work. I leaned forward a little, "What you doing?" "Work" short and to the point. I decided not to say something smart back and just to move on. "What's this book about?" I asked picking it up. "A slave in Saint-Domingue that managed to get some type of peace at the end." She said not even looking my way. I decided to read a little section to see what the book was about. I was reading for a good before Emerald's voice pulled me out, "You like it?" I looked up from the book looking at her, "Yeah, capturing." She nodded and for the first time I saw a genuine smile appear on her face. "That's why I'm reading again." "If you like books like this you would like Blonde Roots." "I haven't read that book." I was about to give her some background on the book before she stopped me, "I said I haven't read it not that I haven't heard of it." I chuckled, "My bad. I got a little excited. I haven't met someone that read these kinds of books since I been here." She nodded, "Have you not looked around and seen the people that go here." We both laughed a little.

She finally put the pencil down she had in her hand since she been sitting at the table. She lifted her body up stretching and cracking her back. "What's your major?" I asked looking at my computer screen to see it was actually pretty late. "Accounting." I nodded, "for real, I'm a finance major and minor in accounting." "What you want to do?" "I haven't figured that out yet." She nodded as she looked at her phone laughing. I figured she got a cute text from her boyfriend to be smiling like that. "How long you and your dude been together?" She looked up at me, "Umm a couple months now." She looked like she never even thought about how long they have been together before I asked her. "How you know I'm in a relationship?" "Your brother told me." She nodded slowly. "If you don't mind me asking do ya have the same mother or father because ya look nothing alike." She laughed, "We not blood related." "Now, it makes sense." "He threatened you didn't he?" "Something like that but he had his reasons." She moved her head to the side as to say yeah.

We went back to doing work for a while before Em started to pack up her stuff to leave. "Thanks for sharing your table." "No problem. I was about to leave and go eat anyway." "Diner." She said looking at me. "Yeah, they have the best food." "I'm heading over now. If you want to leave now." I was surprised that she actually willing to ride with me. "Umm, we sure." She laughed at my actions, "Don't worry, I'm just using you for the ride." We both laughed.
