"Dilan!" Baran screamed, turning in her direction. He could see that she was getting out of the car. "Dilan, go back inside." She didn't look or acknowledge his words. She just stared at the floor. "Dilan?" The open car door blocked his view of her. He looked down, and then he saw it. A thin line of blood ran down her leg. Baran bolted in her direction, but a gunshot sound stopped him. "We are not done here." The man screamed. Baran saw red. "Firat go to Dilan." He ordered as he marched towards the lawyer, right until his head touched the tip of the barrel. "Shoot! Because that is the only way you are going to stop me." Baran dared him. "Baran!" Dilan called for him again, and the man's eyes moved towards her for a few seconds, long enough for Baran to take the gun from his hands and hit him with the back of it. "Take him out of the property," Baran commanded, and hid the gun on his back. Without wasting another second, he ran to Dilan. "I'm here, I'm here." Dilan clutched his hands. "Baran, something is wrong. The babies..." Her words were cut short by the pain. Her face showed how much she was enduring. "Nothing is going to happen, Dilan. I'm taking you to the hospital." Baran helped her get in the car, closed the door, and ran to the driver's side. "I'll follow you, cousin." He nodded towards Firat and started the engine. Baran drove backwards until he reached the road, and then they were off. "Baran, it is too soon... Awww!" He was driving at the speed limit and cursing everyone getting in his way. "It is not, Dilan. The doctor said it could happen soon. Everything will be fine, my angel." He took her hand and felt powerless for not being able to do more. "If anything happens to the babies, I..." Baran shushed her. "Nothing will happen. You and the babies will be fine, Dilan." He felt her squeezing his hand. Baran made a mental note of the time to establish the frequency with which the pain came. The doctor would need the information. "The doctor!"
Without any other thought, Baran called the doctor. "Mr. Baran?" He was honking at the car in front of him. "Dilan. She had some bleeding. I think she is having contractions. We are headed your way." He heard movement on the other end of the line. "How frequent is the pain?" He looked at the time. "I think so far, between 10 and 15 minutes apart." He heard the doctor giving some orders. "Very well, Mr. Baran. We will be waiting for Ms. Dilan." He ended the call and felt Dilan crushing his hand. "Breath in and out, Dilan. In and out." He showed her the breathing pattern, and she mimicked him. "Hurry, Baran!" The desperation was palpable in Dilan's voice. When they reached the hospital, the doctor and nurse were waiting for them outside with a wheelchair on standby. Baran exited the car, not caring about turning the engine off. He circled it and helped Dilan out and into the chair. "Let's take Ms. Dilan to a room." Baran held Dilan's hand, not wanting to let go of her. Inside the hospital, he heard someone calling his name. "Baran!" His cousin was behind them. "Here. Take care of it." Baran handed him the car keys. He didn't have time to say anything else. As soon as they were inside the room, Baran hurried to say. "She has been having pain for a few days now. But they were short and hours apart. "I see... Ms. Dilan, I need you to bend your knees. I need to know how far along you are." The nurse helped Dilan. "You will feel uncomfortable..." Dilan grabbed the bed, visibly bothered by the intrusion. "Her water already broke. However, the babies are not in position yet, and she is not fully dilated. We will give it some time. We will be monitoring the babies' and Ms. Dilan's hearts." The doctor took off her gloves. "We will have her and them in observation and see how she progresses. From this moment, she can only have ice cubes, that is, in case we need to intervene surgically."
Dilan didn't like the sound of that. She wanted to deliver the babies naturally. The doctor seemed to notice. "Only if we need to, Ms. Dilan. You and that babies' health will determine any decision we take. Dilan could not argue with that. "The bleeding?" Baran sat beside her and wrapped his arm around her. "Like I said, we are monitoring the situation, I'm here until those babies are born. I will be checking up on you shortly. If you were to need me, just call." Dilan could not help to feel the doctor was being vague with her answers, on purpose. Another wave of pain hit her. She tried to breathe through it while holding on to Baran. He was breathing with her, and knowing he was there supporting her, made it more bearable. "It is gone." She declared, and on his face she could see relief. "You are so strong, my angel." His apologetic expression was so endearing. "As long as you are with me..." He kissed her lightly on the lips. "I will always be." Dilan leaned into her husband. "Everything will be alright, right, Baran?" He placed his hand over her belly. "It will be, Dilan. I promise." Hearing him say those words reassured her somewhat. She knew that no matter what, Baran would always fight for her and the babies. "I'm calling the mansion to have them deliver your bag and the babies'." While Baran made the call, Dilan changed position. She was feeling discomfort. But it was unsuccessful. "What is it?" Dilan repositioned herself again. "I don't know. My body can't find comfort." Baran stood. "Can you sit and move further down?" She was puzzled by his request, but complied. He positioned himself behind her and began to massage her lower back. "Does this help?" Dilan closed her eyes. "It does. Thank you! How did you know?" He replied without interrupting what he was doing. "I read it is common to feel pain in the lower back. Feel like something is pressing down. And some people recommended this kind of massage." She smiled. When did he read all those things?
