He was standing in a vibrant cave, water splashing over dense algae as strange hairy looking frogs and axolotls splashed and hopped around. The scent was almost overwhelming with flowers, all very different from the ones in the village. The bushy creature that had initially greeted him to the cave had darted off with an odd trilling grumble.
The air was.. alive. So many noises he wasn't used to hearing, yet felt so familiar to his patchy memories. The loud buzzing of cicadas echoing around the cave mixing with the chirps of birds and chattering of small mammals. He could even hear cows, the laughing barks of larger reptiles and the groaning hums of some other familiar creatures whose name escaped him.
Another not quite right butterfly fluttered past him, this time large and mostly ruddy orange. Looking down the cave, he could see a large lake filling the cavern and vanishing around a turn. He could see that it simply went on and on in many directions. Most of it had ceilings so high he could even fly in here- if it weren't for all the vines in the way. Most were glowberries brilliantly illuminating the cavern, yet many were instead a denser leafy vine laden with either long and thin seed pods or beautiful white flowers.
Dream hesitantly glanced back up the tunnel he'd traveled down, seeing the large stony face watching him without a word. The goat vessel was smiling a little, at least. Eventually both heads nodded at him.
He decided that meant he could take a look around for a minute.
So that's what he did, stepping deeper into the cave and taking in the cacophony as much as he could. Even though much of the nearby fauna was already falling silent at his presence. For the moment, he decided to approach a nearby tree with pale, papery bark and vibrant orange flowers. The smell was almost intoxicating, and he caught sight of two strange bunnies amid the branches staring at him. One was white with large silver and black splotches and another was chocolate brown with cream patterns.
It was odd, he had never seen proper droopy eared bunnies before, let alone in trees. Dream leaned closer in curiosity only to jerk back when they abruptly took off in two directions with ribboned wings.
Oh. Those were skyvaders. Okay.
They had really paddle-shaped wings, aside from the ribbon feathers.
Dream moved on to another, surprisingly large tree with dark green leaves and brilliantly glowing royal blue flowers. On the astonishingly black bark he could make out bright cyan insects loudly droning. Cicadas. Incredible.
They went quiet as he got closer, but thankfully they were still enough that he could make out the cloudy blue-gray eyes on their heads and patterned red-orange wings.
He leaned back towards a nearby mossy wall, regarding the bush growing directly off of it with the hot pink flowers. Huffing on it startled a tiny buzzing bird off and into the trees. That. That was a hummingbird, wasn't it?
All of these creatures were a delight to discover. A little more excited, Dream then sniffed a smaller fern with a large glowing flower much like a spore blossom with a rich, tangy scent.
And a taller fern with white flowers.
Everything had such a strong scent, it was incredible.
Finally leaping forward, Dream raced around several trees, watching smaller creatures flee out of the corner of his eyes before sliding to a stop at the edge of the remarkably clear water. Inside were so many bright colors yet all of them were from fish and a few anemones. He idly flicked a floating bundle of leaves out of the way to better look at everything going on in the water.
Most of the fish were tiny with massive ribbony fins, coming in spectacular colors- many even iridescent. One stood out to him as being a shimmering blue-black with somewhat red-orange fins. The glowing cyan spots that dotted it almost reminded him of sculk, though the fins dispelled the illusion.
