There are few things that Danny is truly invested in (obsessed with) after officially rising to the throne and duty of the ghost king, the ruler of the infinite realms. His friends and family are well taken care of and spending their time in their chosen afterlife. They occasionally meet up every now and then with their living descendants.

Sam, while not an ancient herself, has found her place as Undergrowths champion after working with the Ancient in an effort to support earths ecosystem. Not rapidly, but efficient as they work in the human realm. That way there were no hunters to stop them.
While doing so, Undergrowths power and ectoplasm -at first sealed for use in an amulet- transferred to her. As such, she is more of a witch with longevity (having the blessing of an Ancient), plant manipulation, ghost speak.
She also has a Plant Core fueled by undergrowth, thus regarded as a Semi-Ghost.

Tucker has fully embraced his past life, which makes him ghost-adjacent. Like Danny, he can shift into another form, though he doesn't generate ectoplasm. However, he can process it with his magic scepter and presides over the Blazing Dunes in the Ghost Realm if he's not actively revolutionizing Amity Parks tech-industry.

Jazz is working on her diploma in psychology somewhere in the United States last he heard from her through Ghost Writer, who together with Spectra (a match he still keeps an eye on) is supporting her. They correlate advancements, share books to update his library (and Jazz has an easier time borrowing books from there than to return them to the academy library) and engage in training for how to handle patients. Danny is unsure how to feel about it, though he trusts his older sister. She knows how to defend herself and call for help, and it was her own request: the perfect matchup to practice with different and emotional mindsets. Plus, Spectra does have the experience of getting into the head of an entire student body.

His parents and Vlad actually went on a field trip through the different realms, borrowing the Infini-Map that Danny entrusted to Ellie. She's a free spirit, and getting some training in through Vlad along with a formal education via his parents (and the study guides left in the OPS-Center).

As it stood, few things grabbed his attention nowadays. Even fewer his ire.

The green portal forming over him and sucking him into it did the trick. He didn't have a moment to spare before getting sucked inside. It wasn't his first time of portal hopping, and there are no places that he doesn't know the location of -being Ancient of Space- so he's honestly just waiting for it to spit him out wherever. Or, int the event of wherever, for Clockwork to fetch him.

It didn't spit him out for a long time, until he saw something else floating in the endless green before him. It was... small, human-ish. It was a child.
He drifted to it, fast approaching and gently stopped when he was a few feet away.

The child was tan, a brown skin that hinted more to his cultural heritage than sunburn. Dark, short locks of hair whisped around his head lazily, swaying in the green lifeblood that-

He felt sick. Genuinely sick.

This wasn't-- the ectoplasm wasn't right. It was full of emotion, but it was so still.
It echoed of countless deaths, and anger from more than one soul.

King Phantom finds himself in a Lazarus Pit, more specifically, in the LOA's main Lazarus Pit. And what does he find? Besides the rancid contamination and twist done to the death magic that is home to the infinite Realms, inherently natural for ghosts?

A young child, clearly no older than 5, swimming- sinking, drifting in these waters. The boy is dead, surely. Yet still, the waters- the mix of ectoplasm and faint hints of blood burning within the acidic substance- hum around him, and the king can sense that something in the child responds.
