One step, then another; each slow, measured, as if weighed down by thought. Head bowed, gaze fixed on the ground, Yn stepped out of the room.
Behind her, the door clicked shut as the woman gently closed it, two men immediately flanking them as they made their way down the dimly lit corridor.
Outside, the sky hung heavy with thick black clouds, thunder growling in the distance like a warning of what was to come.
They descended the staircase in silence. At the base, cars stood waiting, engines off, ready to leave at a moment’s notice.
As Yn reached the final step, she slowly lifted her eyes, taking in the somber scene before her.
Sophia stood a short distance away, a faint smirk curling at the corner of her lips.
A crack of thunder shattered the stillness, sharp and sudden, causing them all to flinch just as the rain began to fall.
Thick droplets spilled from the sky, drenching the world in moments.
Yn remained still, her face unreadable as she stared at the downpour, eyes locked on the grey heavens.
The tension in the air deepened as Daehyun appeared, tapping his foot distractedly against the wet ground, eyes distant.
Without looking at her, he spoke to Sophia, “The rain’s getting heavier. We should wait, going now might trap us somewhere.”
Sophia gave a short nod. “I was thinking the same. We’ll wait it out.”
Their decision was mutual. Daehyun gestured to his men, who promptly opened the door to a nearby room.
“Take shelter here for now. We’ll move once the road clears.”
The woman guided Yn inside. The others followed, settling into the room quietly, each person retreating into their own silence, the sound of rain filling the gaps between them.
Lightning struck somewhere in the distance, the sky grumbling as rain poured steadily, soaking the earth in silence.
Wind slipped through the trees, making their branches sway and leaves tremble, like the world was holding its breath.
Inside, time slipped by with nothing but the steady ticking of the clock and the quiet thudding of a heartbeat, both sounds blending into one quiet rhythm.
Half an hour passed. The rain finally began to ease, softening into a steady drizzle.
Daehyun stepped into the room, eyes sharp as he signaled his men. “Let’s move. We can’t wait any longer.”
Meanwhile
“Hyung.”
The word barely escaped his lips, a hushed breath as he looked up. Jimin was at his side in a heartbeat, concerned.
“I found it.” Jungkook’s voice was low, almost trembling, his fingers slightly shaking, his heart pounding as he pushed himself to his feet.
Then, without a pause, he dashed out, thoughts racing as wildly as the rain had moments before.
“Jungkook, wait!” Jimin called after him. Jungkook stopped, turning back.
“We can’t lose time. Let’s go.”
Jimin caught up, asking quickly, “Are you sure? Absolutely sure that it's accurate?”
Jungkook exhaled, steadying his breath. “More than ever. I can’t be wrong now.”
After giving quick instructions, they split up, each heading to their cars.
Jungkook got in, shutting the door behind him as he leaned back for a second, eyes closed, trying to steady himself.
