The quiet murmur of conversation filled the room, soft and steady like a lullaby.
Moonlight streamed through the windows, blending with the night breeze to wrap the space in a cocoon of safety and warmth.
On the couch beside Yn's bed, Eun Ae sat peeling an orange, slipping into lighthearted conversation with Mr. and Mrs. Jeon now and then.
From her bed, Yn watched them with a faint smile, grateful for their presence. They spoke lightly, not asking much of her so she could rest, yet still keeping her company. silence.
She was grateful, though her thoughts kept drifting elsewhere. Jungkook still hadn't shown up, and when her eyes flickered to the clock, a quiet sigh escaped her lips.
The hospital at night was hushed, the kind of stillness that pressed gently at the edges of everything.
Beyond their room, only the faint shuffle of footsteps and the distant rustle of nurses could be heard.
Eun Ae finished plating the orange slices and, picking up a fork, held one out to Yn with a gentle smile, urging her to eat.
Yn's lips curved in a weary but grateful smile as she looked at her, delaying a moment before asking softly instead.
"Where's Jungkook?" Yn asked quietly. Eun Ae only smiled, lifting the fork toward her. "Eat this first. He'll be back by then, I promise," she said gently.
Yn sighed but nodded, letting her feed her small bites.
Eun Ae was careful, slow, knowing well that if Jungkook returned to find Yn skipping her meal, he wouldn't be pleased.
The room was warm with soft conversation when the door finally opened.
Jungkook stepped in, Jimin just behind him. After greeting his parents, Jungkook's eyes immediately found Yn.
Catching the worry written across her face, he gave her an apologetic smile and crossed the room in quick strides, settling beside her on the bed.
He reached for her hand, holding it firmly in his own.
"Where were you?" Yn asked, her voice low but edged with concern.
"I'm sorry, my love," he murmured. "Something urgent came up. I wouldn't have left if it wasn't important. I'm truly sorry."
Yn narrowed her eyes. "Urgent work? At this hour?"
A chuckle slipped from Jungkook as he leaned closer, brushing her nose playfully with his finger. "I suppose I don't need to ask how you're feeling.
The fact that my lady is interrogating me tells me she's doing just fine. But I promise, it really was urgent. Otherwise, I'd never leave your side."
Her lips curved into a small chuckle of her own as she shook her head. "I was worried... Don't go anywhere for a while. Just stay with me."
His smile softened, his thumb brushing against her hand. "I'm right here. Not going anywhere. Promise."
Their voices sank into each other, the world shrinking down to just the two of them.
The others glanced at one another, amused and quietly relieved to see them like this.
With small, knowing smiles, they slipped out of the room, leaving the couple wrapped in the comfort of each other's company.
As the night grew quieter, Jungkook eased Yn back against the pillows, careful with every movement so she wouldn't strain herself.
"Time to sleep now, hmm? Just rest. I'm right here," he murmured, tucking the blanket around her.
