My name is Marcus, Marcus Harrison. And I'm a liar.
Well, I guess that might need some context. I had told Marie, a friend of mine, that I no longer go to that forest. I told her to leave it behind, save it for later. To never, ever provoke that woman's scorn again. Truth be told, I could choke on my own hypocrisy. I have done all of those things and more. Tempted the lines of fate and put my life on the line just for the sake of finding Fei.
I know that somewhere out there, if she had found out what I was doing, what I was risking, Fei would beg me not to continue. Just leave her be, wherever she was. But that's not an option anymore. I'm far too deep to turn back now.
If I had told Marie this, heh, she would skin me alive. Maybe that was worth it, better than having her get harmed in any way.
But before I get into that, my lies have spread to our other friends. Amber: I keep telling her I've got practice with the team. She never goes to the games, too busy studying and stuff. She'll never find out that I'm absent. Next is Kaleb, my best friend. I just tell him that I'm busy with Sofi. He believes that in a heartbeat. She's my little sister after all, and she can be quite the handful. Finally, there is Sofi herself. She's always the hardest to convince. I tell her anything that I could think of; I'm hanging out with Marie, I'm up hanging posters with Kaleb. I'm out with the boys at practice. Whatever I can. I know my sister would never let me go out there given what's been going on. And she wouldn't hold this whole thing a secret.
When we visited the Ren residence, Marie used the plan I gave her to access Fei's room. By extension, we got into Raul's room; finding notes, scrolls, and the chauffeur's diary. Marie, being ever so cheeky, decided to take the easy job and leave me with translating the scrolls and notes from Japanese to English. Which is what I'm currently trying to do.
"Damn it! I'm ass at this!!" Marcus scolded himself as he roughly pushed his chair back, standing. He was beginning to develop a headache, his eyes had spent hours of the morning trying to translate notes with little success.
"I take Japanese as a language class for my credits for a year in high school, out of her suggestion, and now I'm an expert? Marie, you airhead..." he told himself, ruffling his hair in frustration before looking at his clock. It's been too long, "I've got no other option but to approach Kaleb on this. He's a native speaker... so this should be a piece of cake for him. But, agh, should I?"
Marcus contemplated before looking at his messages. Marie had sent him photos of highlighted journal entries, along with a picture of the opened scroll. He looked at the depictions of a ritual, opening a portal to some area. Interesting.
'Hey Marc, I reached the end of the journal that talks about some Gouki guy. He seems to have it out for Fei, but I don't know why. Also, this Raul guy used to be friends with Fei, but not anymore? I guess he must be around the same age as us then, but he seems super dangerous. Anyway, the journal stopped there. I'm at a loss. Any luck with those notes?'
'Also, scratch the Raul thing. The guy's name is Shiro, apparently. Why? Idk, text me asap.' Marcus chuckled at her text before responding.
'You're stuck? Sounds like you got more stuff done than I have. I haven't been able to translate anything at all. I was thinking if I should bring Kaleb into this, but what should I use as an excuse.'
