That Evening at Claire's House

Claire: Hey!

Ed: Hey. Didn't know if you'd be home.

Claire: Uh, yeah, tag teaming. Marin county sent some people to help out. Where are the kids?

Ed: Homework, upstairs.

Claire: Has anybody eaten?

Ed: There was talk of pizza.

Claire: Have a bad day today?

Ed: You don't want to know.

Claire: Is that why you're not at physical therapy?

Ed: I can't predict when I'm gonna feel like this, Claire.

Claire: And even when you do feel this way, you have to keep going. The doctor said there was-

Ed: look, this whole "one foot in front of the other" thing is easier for some people than others.

Claire: You're telling me? I've been staring at the body of a disabled vet who fought like an olympic warrior to save his own life. And you can't make dinner. Hey, can it wait?

Jane: We got the murder weapon. Unis found it in a storm drain four blocks away from the bart station.

Claire: I'm on my way.

At BPD

Tom: Yes. So-yeah, as soon as we confirm it is not a spree killer, I will give you a call back. Yes, sir. No, sir, I-hello? Damn!

Jane: Grumpy mayor?

Tom: Turns out that man has a silver platter, which he just handed me with my ass all over it.

Jane: I'm sorry.

Tom: Part of the job. Can't take it personal- ly. Is that what I think it is?

Jane: Do you think it's the murder weapon?

Tom: I do.

Jane: Then it is what you think it is.

Tom: You know what this means?

Jane: That you can call the mayor back.

Tom: And give him what?

Jane: Good news.

Tom: Very good news. Come on. Come on. We are gonna solve this case. The city is gonna get back to normal. Things are lookin' up. Come on. Give me a little shimmy.

Jane: This is so not professional. Is that the mayor again?

Tom: It's the chief calling to make threats on my job if we don't solve this case. We are gonna solve this case, right?

Jane: I'm workin' on it.

Tom: Hello, chief. Uh, no. Actually, we have found the murder weapon. Yes, sir.

The Next Morning-Saturday: At BPD In the Breakroom with Jill

Jane: Claire says it's a match on all three victims. The bad news is it's unregistered and untraceable.

Jill: Did you go home last night?

Jane: No. Can you tell?

Jill: You look fine.

Jane: The good news is I spent the night running all the stores that sell army boots like the ones our killer was wearing. I found one that's been busted twice in the past year for selling illegal firearms. Seriously, am I, like, haggard? Is it dark circles, what?
