Chapter 77

Tuesday-The Next Morning

Everyone's in the bullpen. Arizona, Maura and the triplets are in the bullpen as well because of nothing to do. Jane calls Maura and Arizona into her office.

Jane: Hey, Maura and Arizona. Can I talk to you in my office for a minute?

Arizona&Maura: Sure.

They all walk in and Jane shuts the door but leaves the blinds open. They sit down.

Jane: I was thinking about something and I wanted to know what you thought.

Arizona: What is it?

Jane: See that's the hard part. I'm afraid you'll hurt me or get mad again.

Maura: Hey?

She looks at her.

Maura: We will never hurt you again. Okay?

Jane: Really?

Arizona: Yes, baby.

Jane: I want to go back to being a real detective. I had passed the Sergeant's exam before getting promoted. It's just that I loved solving cases and now all I do is paperwork. Korsak has been wanting this job for forever. I was gonna talk to Tom and see if we could switch positions. Korsak become Lieutenant and I become Sergeant. I wanted to know what you thought.

Arizona: Why would you want our opinions?

Jane: Because of what happened before. I didn't want it to happen again.

Arizona: Hey? If you want to go back to being a real detective and chasing bad guys then I'll support you 100%.

Maura: Me too, baby.

Jane: Tom already knows about it, I just have to tell him to go through with it. We're gonna tell Korsak and everyone else today. Actually, we're gonna be telling them now. Here comes the Chief.

They walk out and into the bullpen.

Korsak: What are you doing here Chief?

Tom: Do you want me to say it or do you want to?

Jane: I'll do it. I know how much you've been wanting the Lieutenants position. Since I'm able to walk and run now, I'm resigning from Lieutenant and downgrading.

Everyone(except Maura&Arizona): What?!

Jane: Congratulations Korsak, you are now our Homicide Lieutenant.

She hands him his new badge.

Korsak: Thanks Jane.

Nina: Wait. If Korsak's becoming Lieutenant, then what are you doing?

Jane: I took the sergeants exam before I got promoted to Lieutenant. We're just switching positions. So, you still have to listen to me and Korsak. And I have to listen to Korsak.

Korsak: Thank you again, Janie. This means a lot to me.

Jane: I know and you're welcome. Today, you're gonna be with me until lunch and then we'll either go home if there's no case or we'll work our new positions to get used to them if we do get a case. Anyone not okay with that?

Silence.

Jane: Okay. Come on Korsak.

For the rest of the morning, Jane shows Korsak exactly what to do, when to do it and how to do it. Then, they go to lunch and go home.
