He opens the closet door, and we stumble out, laughing like crazy. He throws his arm around my shoulders, and I think about pulling away. But I don't...it feels comforting. Friendly, even brotherly, in a way.
"I can not believe you thought an air vent was a lion!" He scowls with mock shock.
"Not a lion, a PUMA," I correct. He opens his mouth the reply, probably with a sarcastic remark, but we are interrupted by an angry voice from behind.
"Get your hands off my sister!" Josh yells. I turn my head just in time to see him grab Caleb and throw him against a locker.
"Calm down Josh, jeez," I say, pushing him off of Caleb. "I see you two haven't been properly introduced. Caleb, this is my brother Josh. Josh, this is Caleb." I decide to play along with the whole 'clean slate' thing.
"Pleased to meet you," Caleb politely stated, extending his hand towards Josh.
Josh looks at me, then Caleb, them back at me. He turns away and storms off, throwing his arms in the air, and angrily exclaiming, "I don't know why I even bother with you, Lottie."
The second Josh is out of earshot, we burst out laughing, leaning on each other so that we don't collapse on the floor.
My phone vibrates in my pocket, and I pull it out. It is a text from Tiff reading, 'Where are you? Should I be worried?'
'No,' I reply. 'Use your car keys, I'm catching a ride home with a friend.'
"It's okay if I ride home with you, right," I casually ask Caleb.
"Sure," he replies, shrugging his shoulders.
'Friend? Ummm, I'm your only friend loser,' Tiff texts back. I can almost hear the humor in her voice.
'I know we are twins, but that doesn't mean we lead twin social lives sista. Now I gtg, my phones about to die,' I quickly type up, before hitting send. Moments later, the apple sign shows up on my screen, before my phone completely powers down.
"So, are we gonna go or not. Because we are going to be in trouble if a teacher sees us still here," Caleb questions.
"Okay, let's go," I say. "Wait. Shhhh...do you hear that?"
"What," he whispers. A beat of silence goes by before I reply.
"Footsteps."
"Hey kids! Get over here right now," a yell echoes through the hall.
We simultaneously turn our heads, and see a janitor, looking very angry. We take of running full speed, heading towards the door leading to the parking lot.
"Stop it! Detention!" The janitor yells. We make it to the doors, and race to Caleb's car.
"Get the keys, get the keys!" I yell. He pushes the button to unlock the car, and we both hop in.
He pulls out of the parking lot in a blink, and floors it till we are far from the school. Then, he pulls to the side of the road, and slams on brakes.
We look at each other, and explode in laughter.
