The first week at Nevermore was surprisingly tolerable.
You'd expected gothic melodrama, teenage angst, and possibly a murder or two.
What you got was Wednesday Addams explaining the optimal pH level for dissolving bones while Eden crocheted you a "Friendship is Magic (But Murder is More Fun)" scarf.
"I don't understand why you're making me this," you said, watching him work with disturbing efficiency.
"Because you need warmth," Eden replied cheerfully. "And color. You dress like you're attending a funeral."
"I'm rooming with Wednesday. Every day is a funeral."
Wednesday didn't look up from his typewriter. "Flattery will get you nowhere."
"That wasn't flattery. That was a cry for help."
Over the following days, something strange happened. You started to enjoy their company.
Wednesday's morbid commentary became background noise you found oddly comforting.
Eden's undying optimism was like weaponized sunshine, but somehow it worked.
They didn't ask about your past.
Didn't pry into why you were checking a strange device
Wednesday simply stated...
"Everyone has secrets. Yours happen to involve interdimensional travel and poor life choices."
Oh yes, he totally didn't discover your secret by checking your device while you weren't around.
You nearly choked.
"How did you...?"
"I observe. You speak in references no one understands. Your knowledge of future events is suspiciously specific. And you flinch every time someone mentions 'the device."
His dark eyes fixed on yours. "I find it... intriguing."
Eden bounced on his bed. "Does this mean she's a time traveler? That's so cool!"
"Multiverse traveler," you corrected without thinking.
Wednesday's lips curved. "Even better."
Two weeks in, your device started glitching.
Error messages flooded the screen. The interface flickered between languages you didn't recognize.
You were in the school yard, trying desperately to reboot it.
When Adam appeared in the center of the room you share with the boys.
Not his usual confident entrance. He stumbled, looked around in confusion.
And immediately, Wednesday's hand shot out, something silver flashing in the dim light.
A cord wrapped around Adam's wrists with surgical precision.
Eden moved faster than anyone ever saw him, producing rope from seemingly nowhere.
Within seconds, Adam was tied to a chair, both boys standing over him.
"Well," Wednesday spoke coldly. "We have a visitor."
"What the-"
"Silence." Wednesday pulled out a knife.
Not threatening.
Just a present.
"You transported into a school dormitory unannounced. You're either phenomenally stupid or desperately reckless. Which is it?"
