"How could you not know the meaning behind the sacred forehead ribbon?" a Lan elder demanded, his voice edged with disdain.
"Have you not copied our sect's rules countless times?" another elder pressed, clear dissatisfaction written across his face.
"Or did you merely pretend to write them and never complete your punishment?" Third Lan eldy added, doubt flickering in his eyes-even questioning the integrity of their own Second Young Master by implication.
"I did write them!" Wei Wuxian immediately protested.
"You seem to know everything about the Lan Sect-their customs, their robes, even the smallest details others overlook, " Jin Guangyao said, suspicion lingered beneath his gentle tone. "And yet you claim that you have no clue about the sacred forehead ribbon of them."
Indeed, Wei Wuxian had always been the type to notice what others missed. How, then, could he not know the significance of the forehead ribbon?
"I really didn't know..." Wei Wuxian replied awkwardly. For once, he looked genuinely flustered. Instinctively, he turned his gaze toward Hanguang-jun for support.
Before the elders could speak again, Lan Xichen stepped forward smoothly.
"It does not matter whether he knew or not," he said with a warm but firm smile. "The matter is already settled. Wangji is engaged to him."
Lan Xichen glanced at his brother briefly before turning back to the others, his smile courteous yet firm.
"Besides," he continued smoothly, "Young Master Wei will soon be attending the lessons. There is no need for further debate. All the important customs and meanings of the Gusu Lan Sect will be properly explained during those lectures."
His tone was gentle, but the message was clear-this discussion would go no further.
The hall fell quiet.
The Lan elders exchanged looks. Though some still appeared dissatisfied, none could openly refute the Sect Leader's reasoning.
Wei Wuxian blinked. "Lessons... again?" he muttered under his breath, a faint look of despair crossing his face.
The old man said nothing.
But his sharp eyes softened slightly as they rested on his elder nephew.
Lan Qiren stroked his goatee with slow, deliberate motions, a faint trace of pride settling in his expression. Lan Xichen had handled the situation flawlessly-calm, firm without being confrontational.
This was how a sect leader should speak.
Measured. Graceful. Unyielding where necessary.
Though he would never voice it aloud, Lan Qiren felt a quiet satisfaction.
Jin Ling, "Come on! You know what it means. Stop getting so carried away. I don't want to talk about this anymore. Are you Wei Ying?"
At the end of his reply, he suddenly tossed out the straightforward question, taking Wei WuXian by surprise. Wei WuXian responded calmly, "Do you think we're similar?"
