Recap of Last Chapter:
"Where is Chiyo?" I spoke, staring down at him as he looked up at me. I take notice of something, his eyes. They weren't like before, now it was full of fear. A small smile placed on my lips as I moved closer, I crouched near his head. Staring down into his eyes, my hands moved as I cup his cheeks. "I asked you a question."
My father gulped, a smile breaking onto his lips as he laughed a bit. "Project 001 is not for you to seek. You won't find her." He smirked. I looked deep into his eyes. This man before me, although he is my father, realized that he had gone insane. His structure was different; he used to be a lot more buff, but now he seems to be much skinnier. "What happened to mom?"
He stared at me, and any kind of emotion left his eyes. He looked away, trying to avoid eye contact.
"Test Subject 002 had been eliminated."
____________
"What?" I gasped, staring at the man before me. My eyes widen, and the words that he had spoken ring through my mind like an endless echo. My hands shake for a moment, although my mother was not good to me and treated me like a subject, she had still been a mother to me at some point. My father's eyes were so soulless now, had he been the one to eliminate her?
"You heard me, she was a failure in this project." He grunted; the blunt from earlier must have hurt him. I pressed my foot down onto his chest more, glaring at him. "Did you kill her?" I growled, venom in my voice. The hatred had returned to my voice; the shock had passed.
"Who else would have done it? I did it with my own hands." He chuckled, his eyes wide. The memories of my mother return to me. Before everything, before I had met Shinichi, the mother I once loved had disappeared. I take a deep breath. I shouldn't be shocked. That side of my mother had long died out before this.

"Dr. L/N, are you sure this will work? What if she is not compatible?" The assistant spoke with worry as they stared at the screen's diagnosis. Dr. L/N looked at the readings, and he looked at his assistant, glaring at them. "It will work. Are you doubting my knowledge?"
"No, no! Of course not. All I am saying is that if the drug is not compatible with Mrs. L/N, it could take a huge toll on her body." The assistant glanced at the screen across from them. There on the surgical table was the doctor's wife. Tied down and attached to all sorts of wires that were attached to machines. Heart monitors blood levels and the IV drip that would soon be filled with the drug they had been experimenting on.
Dr. L/N raised his head, his eyes scanning his wife's unconscious body. He had worked so hard for the drug to work. Test subject 001 had taken the drug heavily, and the child's body had remained in a coma for a while. He reached for the file next to his computer. Opening it and grasping the newest report.
"Nothing is going to stop me from reaching our goal. In our last report, we merely noticed subtle changes to subject 001's body. Bruises, rashes, and dents, but with resting time, the body returned to normal." He glanced at the pictures that were taken.
The assistant gulped; he knew just how dangerous the drug was. Other subjects before 001 and 002 had failed miserably and painfully to adapt to it. The assistant knew that if subject 002 could not adapt, it would be a mutilation and the end of Dr. L/N's wife. Why had she agreed to do this? Had she not been warned? Impossible, everyone who had signed the contract knew of the risks and restrictions.
"Dr. L/N, I do believe-"
"SILENCE." Dr. L/N slammed his hands on the desk, and the documents and papers flew a bit before stopping. The room grew silent for a moment, the atmosphere tense with the doctor's outburst. Dr. L/n grew tired of hearing his assistant's ranting and pleading, so he took initiative. "It will work, now, hand me the drug sample and the syringe.
The assistant reluctantly gave the syringe and drug to the doctor; the look on their face was unpleasant. There was nothing they could do to stop the doctor, so they shut their mouth and looked ahead, watching as Dr. L/N walked into the operating room.
Within that room, the sounds of the heart monitor beeping and the machines would linger. He stopped for a moment, gazing at his wife at the table. He eyed her, taking in the look of his wife. "Thank you for this opportunity. I won't let it go to waste, my dear." He slowly dug the syringe into the IV drip, allowing the medicine to flow within it.
Once done, he threw the empty container of the drug into the trash can, placing the used syringe onto the table nearby. Quickly, he returned to the viewing room where he watched the monitors. The camera above the surgical table flashed, indicating movement. His wife opened her eyes, staring into the camera above. The monitor scanned her eye, checking her vitals as the drug dripped down slowly through her tubes.
Her eyes were soft, tired, and full of life, but within seconds they widened. Her eyes shook with fear and pain. The monitors within the viewing room beeped and alarmed loudly. The assistant quickly typed on the computer, making reports and documenting any sort of different changes they noted with this test.
"Dr. L/N, the drug is trying to adapt to her body." The assistant called out, watching the readings on the computer. The doctor stood at his desk, his hands on the cold surface as he watched the glass. He witnesses his wife's body steam slowly, her body slowly retracting smaller. He smirked, "It's working! IT'S WORKING!"
Oh, how wrong he was, because, before him, his wife was slowly dying. His excitement died down, his hands falling onto the surface of the table and to his side. His wife, or what was left of his wife, lay on the table. Her body was dry, limbs mutilated in different sizes. It was a terrifying sight to behold. Half her face was sunken in, eyes wide open, and lips agape from the shock and pain. "Doctor..." The assistant looked at him, seeing his blank expression.
Dr. L/N walked around the viewing room, stepping into the surgical room. It smelled of burnt flesh and metallic blood. He reached out to the table, his hands shaking from the view. "Yui..." He called out, his voice straining from how his throat hurt. He felt like throwing up; his wife was gone.
"Test Subject 002.....was not compatible." His voice echoed as he cleared his throat, and he forced his hands to still. His wife may be gone, but his research must continue. After all, this is what he had signed her up for.
For death.
