~We're not friends, we're just strangers with memories~

\\Chapter Seven\\

Seeing Alec after all these years wasn't what I had suspected it to be. I remember rehearsing lines in front of the mirror, writing notes of what I should do the next time I met him, yet right now, it seemed like every simple note or speech I memorized was completely erased from my mind without a single trace left behind.

I was standing in front of him tongue tied, unable to form any audible words. It seemed like a magical spell was casted on me, prohibiting me from performing any movement no matter how unrecognizable it was. Never in a million years would I have had suspected this moment would have had ever occurred between me and Alec.

It brought so much scourge that we turned into some kind of strangers dealing with such an awkward tortuous situation.

Alec was also as equally stunned as me. He actually kept on blinking not able to recognize whether it was an illusion or a reality. He opened his mouth but no words were formed. Thankfully, he snapped out of his haze as acknowledgment finally settled in his senses.

"Arianna? H-how are you?" he asks softly afraid if he raised his voice I might disappear.

I gazed at him sure that many emotions were swirling in my eyes as my shield wouldn't raise to protect me from this tormenting scene. "Good." That was the only word that I was able to form under my current circumstances. Neither my voice nor my body was to be trusted at the moment.

"You changed a lot." He gives me an eye over as if it's the first time he sees my face.

"I wish I could say the same to you." Uncontrollably, my face grimaced with disgust. The past reappeared in my mind reminding me of events I yearned to forget so insistently.

His miserable laugh echoed through the empty streets as a weird emotion rested in his eyes. "I see you haven't forgiven me, have you?"

I stare coldly at him stunned that he actually asked such a silly question. "You don't even deserve my forgiveness." I spit out with rancor filling every word.

"You're right," he whispered looking at the ground ashamed as something that seemed like guilt and regret flashed in his eyes. A small part of me wanted to confront him, but, at the same time, an invisible chain pulled me back from the man that didn't even deserve pity, a man I'm dishonored to call him my ex best friend.

"I should go. It was nice seeing you, Arianna." His words reflect the opposite of what he felt. He seemed full of sorrow and despair at our little encounter. He was about to walk away but something stopped him. More like someone. This time he doesn't stand frozen as his muscles tense and his hands fold into fists.

"Elena... I didn't see you there." His voice is hushed by some strange force, pushing it down as his eyes are fixed on her.

His words are the only motivation Elena needed to sprint towards him and throw herself into his rough body. She hugs Alec with every fiber she had while he stood paralyzed in his place, definitely not expecting her rash behavior. That was the thing with Elena, she acts the way she feels. No thinking occurs when she stands up to action.

A few seconds passed and Alec doesn't show any signs of surrendering into her hug. That's when Elena started to retreat back from him, but suddenly his large hands wrap around her back pulling her closer. He engulfed her in a warm embrace, which she gladly welcomed.
