Chapter 27

"Ladies and gentlemen, may I introduce my love...Persephone."

I received a sharp push forwards from my left and turned swiftly to scowl at the perpetuator. A man that must have been easily double my height, wearing an all black tuxedo, scowled straight back me. My scowl wavered and I gulped, staring straight back ahead.

"Princess, it's your cue to walk. Or shall I carry you instead?" His gruff voice muttered, loud tough for me to hear.

My eyes widened slightly in surprise. But I didn't look at him and instead started to walk forwards. Weren't they all meant to be scared of me or something? I know I'm not the most intimidating of people, but weren't they meant to be at least a little scared. I mean, I'm with the Devil himself for Gods sake. And I'm a God too right?

Caught up in my own thoughts, I didn't realise that I had made my way into the middle of the ballroom and Damien's outstretched hand now was quite a distance away. The guests had made room for me and I now stood in a semi-circle of people, half or which were struggling to compose their laughter at my actions. I turned around to face Damien, my cheeks heating up at the attention, and gestured him over.

"Come...my love," I forced out, "I want to dance with you."

The rest of the night was spent silently by Damien's side as he mingled with guests. I didn't forget my aim for tonight though. I just needed a way to leave.

I started to scan the crowds for someone to help me in the situation. In all honesty, I was looking for Alyanna. But just my luck, I hadn't seen her all night.

The last time I saw of her she had revealed how she wanted me gone. I ignored the feelings of rejection that I was clearly not wanted here, and instead focused on the fact that this could work to our mutual advantage. She could help me out. I could leave.

I saw a shot of bright blonde hair from the corner or my eyes. It couldn't be...

"I-I have to go..." I said to Damien, my eyes the leaving the blonde girls back.

I half ran forwards, not caring the slightest of the looks I was receiving. I slowed dramatically when I neared the blonde and tentatively rested my hand on her bare shoulder.

She immediately turned around and I was once again met with the all too familiar blue eyes of my former best friend.

My mouth opened to speak, but I quickly shut it. What would I even say. Would she remember me? I was meant to be stricken from all human memory on Earth. Wait. The main question....

"You look like a blowfish."

"How are you here right now?" I asked, ignoring her comment completely.

"Well what a warm welcoming from the almighty Goddess." She rolled her eyes and smirked when a few chortles sounded from the crowd.

I pursed my lips. Is she serious right now?

Grabbing her arm, I dragged her to the very balcony I stood at the last ball. Somewhere away from a crowd.

I folded my arms and stared at her.

"Please answer my question Katherine."

"Katherine? Ouch."

"Why are you here?" I persistently asked again.
