since neither calum or i had a place to bury zoe's body, the vet told us directions to a field that would be nice. calum drove of course, but i sat in the back row instead of the passengers seat. i brushed her long, dark fur back.

the field held a blanket of frost, but purple spring flowers popped through every few feet. together cal and i dug a
deep enough hole for zoe's limp body. she was rolled up in a blanket and i had picket a few blossoms to lay with her, that had frozen my nimble finger tips.

during out long silence, the dark haired boy's phone rings, it was luke. he stares  at me and he mumbles a few works into the speaker.

"esme, would you like to stay for dinner and all at my place?" calum questions me. i nod, my voice too sore to talk. cal plays my favorite cd on the way back, in hopes to cheer me up. i only cracked a smile for a minute, before going back to my glum look.

luke greeted us at the door of the apartment. "sorry for your loss esme, i heard she was near and dear to your heart." he was quiet for a moment, "i hope you don't mind, i ordered chinese food that should be here any minute."

"sounds perfect." i grin, flopping down on the couch.

"great! i got all the good stuff."

calum wraps his arm around me as i slump on the couch. his other hand plays with the hem of his torn shirt.

the buzzer from the door rings, luke answers. he only cracks the door open so the person outside can see his face and a sliver of his body. a muffled voice talks to the blonde, unknown words exchanged.

"he is, but we have company." he mumbles, but i mange to hear.

"it's urgent." the other voice says, a female.

"sorry, they are grieving from a sudden loss." shuts the door, a bag of food in hand. "that would be marge." he huffs setting the containers on the table.

"marge, hmm." calum repeats.

"well, let's dig in!" luke jumps up, handing us each utensils, ending the conversation before i could ask any questions.
