this bus is out order and no longer runs. we are dearly sorry for this inconvenience.
-london bus company.
"shit." i curse as i read the sign left at the bus stop. now how was i suppose to get home from work?
"disappointment isn't it?" a voice echoes behind me. i whip my head around to the source of the words.
"the bus being out and all." the now identified voice further explains. he was tall and tan. he wasn't from here, showing that he looked like he was kissed by the sun and his australian accent. his deep, dark hair was pushed to the his right side.
"yeah." i mumble, fiddling with the strap of my purse. the cold winter air was now biting at my finger tips viciously.
"i'm calum. do you need a ride?" he offers out his hand in a friendly gesture. i hesitate, that was sketchy. he was cute, i had to admit, with his grey hat, black jacket, and matching pants. but many kidnappers were good looking, that's how the drew their prey in.
"i swear i won't rape you." he chuckles, his big chocolate eyes squinting shut in a joyful way. "not that rape is a joke or anything."
" um... okay." i was quite an awkward person, especially around boys. cute boys. cute boys with cute accents. what had i just gotten myself into?
"so, i never caught your name." he smiles as we begin our walk to wherever the hell his car was. or i assumed we were taking his car.
"i'm esme." i grin at him sheepishly.
"nice to meet you esme. did you just get off of work?" i nod in response. "where do you work?"
"the old coffee shop."
"cool, just at got off too. i work at the music shack. it is just down the road."
we continue walking, in the distance i can see a parking lot, and i hope his car is there. i couldn't take another second in the winter air.when we reach calum's car, a small, grey, five seat-er, he opens the door for me on the passenger side, letting me take my seat. i watch him walk around as i shiver from the cold. he clambers in, shoving the keys into their hole. the air blasts high, it was cold air, it hadn't been heated up yet.
"it will warm up soon." calum explains to me, grinning widely.
we pull out quickly, turning onto the main road. luckily, he wasn't a bad driver, i get car sick easily.
"mind if i turn on some music?" he asks, his hands already reaching for the radio.
"sure, just no death metal." i joke, trying to be more social.
"aww! that's my favorite!" he whines sarcastically, this made me laugh a little. "you have a nice smile." calum suddenly states. i am taken back for a second.
"oh, uh thank you." i return back to my awkward self. the music plays softly, it was blink. just by this song i could tell he had a good taste in music, no wonder he worked at the music shop.
"it's on the right. north hudson." i say pointing to the little complex i live in.
"so- uh can I have your number?" calum asks.
"yeah..." i question, taking out my phone to create a new contact.
"if you ever need a ride again, ya know?"
"oh yeah!" i utter stupidly, "maybe we could car pool."
"that would be cool, here's my number!" he chirps, handing me a scrap of paper with number scrabbled across it. i smile and thank him for the ride before getting out.
"it was my pleasure, really." the australian grins as i shut the car door gently. turning around, my back to his car, i sigh happily.
{first book in my 5sos short story series. Enjoy}
