calum dropped me off outside my apartment. he wanted to come in and make sure all was well, but i refused. if my sister was still there, i needed to work things out, alone. i did promise him a phone call before i went to bed, to make sure i was alright.

i trudge up the stairs, my heavy boots clunking on each step loudly. i leaned up against the door, listening to any noise inside the flat. it was dead quiet, perhaps she had left.

i open the door slowly, my sister nowhere to be seen. surprisingly, zoe does not jump up on me as i enter. i slide on her leash, dragging her down to the ground floor. which was strange, she usually dragged me down.

zoe walks around a little, going to the bathroom, but once she's done she lays down lazily. i tug the leash, dragging her back the the stairs.

entering my room, i find a mess. not the one i had left when i was changing for the party. my small trash can had been kicked across the room, strewing trash on the floor. my many pillows lay around and unfluffed, one even torn open slightly. my sheets were pushed to the edge of the bed. my mirror vandalized with my sisters sweet pink lipstick, a classic. out of the mess on the mirror, i managed to read the word "lies". i huff loudly, clearly pissed.

i begin cleaning, beyond tired from the long day. my back ached and all i wanted to do was call cal to tell him things were alright. would i tell him all was well? lie to my new boyfriend? he was already furious with quinn for making me so upset.

after tidying the crap up, i snuggle under the covers, picking up my phone. it rang once before he picked up, he had been waiting.

"esme! i thought you forgot!" the aussie boy chuckles on the other end.

"i would never!" a smile already forming on my lips.

"so, how did it all play out?" he questions.

"well, she wasn't here when i arrived." i gulp, forgetting the detail about my room.

"really? interesting... how is zoe?"he hums.

"now well i'm afraid. she's not herself, no energy at all. i must take her to the vet."

"aww poor thing! i will drive you!" he offers.

"thank you, but i think i will decline." i say kindly, running my hands through my hair.

"why?" he asks sadly.

"what if she gets suck in your car? i wouldn't want that."

"i wouldn't mind, the poor girl needs help and i'm sure walking her down to the vet won't be the best option." calum had me there. "see if we can bring her tomorrow, neither of us have work."

i can feel his warming smile on the other end. "i will see. we best be getting to bed."

"alright, girlfriend. good night." he stresses the second word, making me feel bubbly inside.

"wait, calum." a sigh erupts on the other end. guilt over comes the bubbles, "please don't be mad-"

"why would i be mad?"

"my sister made a mess of my room. i didn't want to tell you, but..."

"i'm not mad, not at you at least. we can talk more in the morning. goodnight, sweet dreams."

"goodnight, lots of hugs!" i squeak.

"what?" he laughs.

"i don't know." i giggle back before ending the call.
