the weather was warmer. so it wasn't a dread to walk the long distance to the coffee shop. in fact, i quite enjoyed the fresh air.

i hadn't called or come in any sort of contact with calum in the past couple weeks. i think it was for the better. the break up was sudden and neither of us were prepared for it.

i cut my hair too, really short. i liked it this way. it was the way i had it as a child.

cars cruised by on the road beside me. i smiled as i saw my first spring flower. yellow and bright, it sprung out of the ground.

i arrived at the back of the shop, ten minutes before my shift. i began to search my bag for my keys to the back door.

"esme!" shouts out a familiar voice, the lanky boy waving his hands from down the street. i try to pretend i didn't see him, but i stared too long. his long legs carry him to me.

"esme!" he says out of breath from running.

"hey luke." i half grin.

"man, i can't believe you broke up with calum." he blurts out, not even trying to start a normal conversation.

"i did not, he did."

"nope, he said it was your idea."

"yeah, i thought about ending it, he then left me." i clarify.

"still can't believe it. "

"good talk luke, i have to go to my job." i bid him goodbye and enter the cafe.
