"are you excited?" calum asks me as we drive to my place so i can get dressed for the small party.
"i guess." i answer with more of a questioned tone.
"oh, c'mon emse! it's gonna be a blast. i made sure to add your favorite songs to the playlist." he flashes a cheeky smile my way.
"but i don't know anyone." i make up an excuse on the spot, although i had made a whole list of excuses during my work day, hoping to get out of it.
"you know me, and you know luke." the raven haired boy points out.
"that's only two people." i pout, cropping my arms over my chest like a child.
"it's better than one, better than none."
"fine." i smile, scrunching up my nose like calum does. the car pulls into the parking lot, shifting into park.
calum looks to me, "i'll wait here."
"okay, be back in a few." i say before clambering out and rushing up the buildings stairs. i fling the door open, not bothering to lock it. zoe pounces on me. i pet her quickly and throw her one of the treats that lay locked away in a mason jar. i then toss my work bag on the couch and slid into my bedroom where i had laid out my outfit. it had taken me all last night to plan. black jeans and one of my nicer sweaters.
i glide the clothes on, placing the old ones from work in my laundry bin. i look into the mirror. adjusting the sweater, i run my fingers through my long hair. i shrug off the sweater, deciding it was too formal for the casual party. i dig through my my closet, searching for something to wear and losing track of the time.
"esme?" i hear calum call out from the front room. i know zoe has already attacked him with dog kisses.
"yeah?" i pop my head out of my bed room door, hiding my body as i wasn't wearing anything to cover my top exactly a bra.
"almost ready?" he raises his eyebrow, scratching the dog'a stomach as the same time.
"uhh...yeah, i just need to find a top." i mumble, going back to the closest on my hunt.
"let me help you." his voice gets louder as he nears my room.
"no!"
"why?" he stands at the door, not looking in.
"i don't have a shirt on."
"i don't care, you have your under garments on right?"
"yeah, but i don't have a shirt on-"
"don't care, here i come." he enters, i instantly raise the nearest piece of clothing over me.
"calum!" i whine, feeling my cheeks turn a bright shade of red.
"so, let's see," he neatly flips through the shirts, then pulling out one. "this will look good on you." he grins, holding it up to my chest. it was an old ramones shirt my dad had given me before i moved out. i hadn't worn it in forever.
"okay," i chock out, "now, get out so i can change." i shoo him out the door. sliding on the top, i know i am much more comfortable in this. it's looser and not too formal. not formal at all actually. i don't bother to re-apply my make up, i was already running over time and i didn't like it much. make up felt like bad sunscreen on my face, i could never get comfortable with too much on.
i walk out, calum lay on the floor next to zoe, looking up at the ceiling. noticing i'm ready, he looks up. "told ya you would look great!"
"thanks." i blush, looking down at my old shoes.
"let's go, we don't want to miss all the fun." he gets up, draping his arm over my shoulder and leading me back to the car. he has my jacket and bag in his other hand. the raven haired boy makes sure i am comfortable in the car before he cruises down to where the party is.
