i hung my apron on the hook while my phone was pressed to my ear.

"hello?" his faintly familiar voice answers.

"calum. i need a ride, are you available?"

"yeah, i don't get off for another ten minutes. can you wait at the coffee shop? i'll meet you there." he tells me.

"sure." i walk out of the back room to the seating area. i begin to text my older sister, who has been waiting for someone to talk to about the wedding she was planning with her "fab" fiancée. when i look up, calum sits across from me. his legs were hugged by his normal black skinny jeans and he had one of those red and black flannels on that everybody seemed to be into.

"hi" he waves his hand and grins. i wave back. gathering my things, we walk out and start our hike to his car again.

"you know, you remind me of my friend. he's quite quiet too." calum tells me after a few moments of complete silence.

"well, i just don't know what to say." the words falling out of my mouth.

"then i will give you something to say. let's see, so you live with anyone? i live with my friend, the one like you." he states, ruffling his hair.

"i live alone. my friend used to live with me, but she moved to new york to become a 'star' in august." i tell him, using my hands to explain. i was a person to talk with their hands, it looked stupid.

"oh god, i must sound like a total loser." i blurt out accidentally. it happened often, as when i was alone at home and for example, i would stub my toe, a as i'd curse out loud. since i didn't go out much, it became a habit and now i was in fact, a loser.

"no, not at all." he grins, showing his bright white teeth.

"i don't really live alone, i have a dog." i blab on, making a fool of myself. I really wanted to smack myself right this second.

"a dog! that's cool. i like dogs." he states happily, as if i hadn't said anything stupid just then.

"me too." i chuckle. he opened the door for me once again and we climbed into the freezing car. he turns up the heat, rubbing his hands together, creating friction.

"does this dog have a name?" he asks, continuing the small talk.

"yes, her name is zoe. pretty sure she's like a poodle mix, whatever." i let out a small laugh.

"aww, i've always wanted a dog, but never had one." calum cooed.

"on friday, remind me and you can come meet her if you want." we pull into my apartment complex.

"really?" he sounds excited.

"if you want." i smile before getting out the car and waving him off.

{hello, hope you're enjoying!}
