Three

*Twilight Sparkle*

Spike and I stood there waiting at the door. It was 7:55am. They should be here any minute. I looked down at Spike, who was slowly dozing off. "Spike! You gotta stay awake. They will be here any moment!" I shook the little dragon. (A/N shakin' dragon syndrome) He snorted and stood up straight. "Yes Twilight?"

"You need to stay awake. They should be here and minute." As soon as I finished my sentence the door swung open and Shining Armor walked in, followed by the three guards that would be tested.

"Twily!" my brother ran up to me and wrapped his hooves around me. "How have you been?"

"I've been good. How about you and Cadence?"

"Oh she's fine, she wants to apologize for the fact that she couldn't come."

"Oh that's okay. I understand." more guards were coming in. Spike was escorting them to the living quarters. The three guards stood there behind Shining, looking at the castles crystal detail. I recognized the orange pony. It was Flash Sentry. My cheeks heated up as I thought about him becoming my personal guard. Shining looked at me funny, then looked at the guards.

"Oh Twilight! I should introduce you the guards I have chosen," he pointed at Flash and he saluted. "That's Flash Sentry. He is 1st in command and will be taking part in the test." he went on about the other two but I kept glancing back at Flash. And at one point he looked at me right when I looked at him. We both looked away and started blushing.

Shining finished and Spike wasn't back yet so I lead them to their rooms. Shining knew what room he was staying because he and Cadence had stayed in it before. "Dinner will be at 7." I told them before they broke apart and into their separate rooms.

I stood there in the hall thinking; Flash in 1st command, and possibly my personal guard! I've bumped into him before at Cadence's castle. I never really talked to him before. "Princess Twilight?" a voice pulled me out of thoughts. I turned to see Flash standing in the doorway to his room.

"Yes." I took a few steps toward him and he stepped out of the room and closed the door.

"Are you alright?"

"Yes. What did you think was wrong?"

"Well, you just seemed a little dazed." he looked down at his hooves as if he was nervous.

"Flash, what are you doing? You should be unpacking." Shining walked toward me and stood there.

"Just checking on her sir." Flash stood up straight.

"Well go unpack." it almost sounded like Shining didn't want me talking to him. Flash went back inside his room and Shining looked at me.

"What?" I asked.

"Nothing." he sighed and turned to walk away.

Spike still hasn't come back yet, so I headed toward the doorway that led to all the other doors that were doors to the rooms. (A/N that sounds really confusing :p) I walked through the door and found Spike talking to a whole bunch of guards. They were all laughing at Spike and he was laughing with them. "Spike, I've been looking for you."

"Oh, hey Twilight! I was just talking to the guards."

"I can see that," I said flatly, "Spike I need you to go find Rainbow Dash. I need her help planning the flying test."

"Yes ma'am!" and with that Spike took off. I smiled at the guards and left. I wondered the halls of the castle, not really knowing what to do. I was looking at for meeting room. I still get lost, this castle is so big and I'm always on my hooves doing something.

All the sudden I bumped into some pony. "Sorry." I said rubbing my head. I looked up to see Flash looking down at me.

"No, I'm sorry Princess. I should look where I'm going." he blushed and held out a hoof to help me up. I placed mine in his and got up.

"It's fine. It seems like were always bumping into one another." I gave a sly smile.

"Haha, yeah." he rubbed his neck and looked at the floor, as if there was something interesting about it. We stood there in an awkward silence until I heard hoof steps. "I better get going." he smiled and left. I turned around to find Dash, Spike and Shining.

"Okay every pony is here. I guess we should go to the meeting room and start planning." We continued down the hall until I opened a door that was the meeting room.

"The walls were a crystal blue color like most of the castle, the table was a shiny pink, and Rarity made some purple chairs. She claimed she made them out of a super soft material. We all took a seat and Spike fetched my papers for the test. Rainbow was getting bored. She kept blowing air at her bangs so they would lift up, then fall back down.

Spike came back and we started to talk about each category. Dash would test Flash in flying because he was the only Pegasus. Golden Touch would be tested on his magic by me. And Note Worthy was an earth pony, so he had nothing special to be tested on.

They were 3 sections to the test; strength, wisdom, and courage. For strength each pony will have to push, pull, and lift a tree trunk. For wisdom the ponies will have to solve a riddle. To test their courage, they will go into the Everfree forest and fight off a Timber wolf. For magic I will test levitation, locating objects, protection spells, and healing spells. And Rainbow is currently planning the flying test.

Testing will begin tomorrow. And each day will be a different section of the test. When I check the time it was 6:45pm. "Only 15 minutes till dinner." I announced.

"I'll go get Flash, Note, and Golden." Shining said while getting up and leaving.

"Dash your more than welcome to stay." I told her.

"I've gotta go finishing planning the test and set it up." shy flew up and out.

"Well I guess we should go to the dining room." I told Spike and we set off. I noticed the guards were starting to fill there post. Shining always worked fast and did his best. And you wonder why he's the captain of the royal guards.

I took my usual seat and Spike was to my left. Shining came in with Golden Touch and Note Worthy. But no sign of Flash.
