Eliza sat by the window, sunlight brushing over her face as she sipped her coffee. The morning air of the capital always felt alive — busy streets, distant car horns, and people walking fast as if the world might end if they slowed down. Yet for Eliza, today was filled with excitement. Hazel was finally here.
She glanced at her phone more than once, waiting for the perfect time to call. After all, Hazel and Sofia must still be arranging things in the apartment. But she couldn’t wait anymore. So, she called.
On the other side, Hazel was standing on a small ladder, trying to place a stack of design files on the top shelf. Sofia was unpacking the fabrics and rolls, humming something under her breath. When Hazel’s phone rang, she smiled instantly.
“It’s Eliza!” she said, climbing down quickly.Sofia looked up from the pile of cushions. “Tell her I’m not kidnapping her sister, okay?” she joked, making Hazel laugh as she picked up the call.
“Eliza!” Hazel said warmly.
“Eliza!” Sofia shouted in the background before Hazel could speak. “I swear I haven’t tied your sister to any chair yet!”
Eliza laughed through the speaker. “You better not! Or I’ll come there with a frying pan!”
All three of them burst out laughing, the tension of unpacking suddenly melting away. For a moment, it felt like everything was just right — family, laughter, and comfort.
Hazel asked softly, “How are you feeling now? You sound… happy.”
“I am,” Eliza replied. “It feels like everything’s changing — but in a good way. And guess what, I don’t have any classes tomorrow noon. So, no excuses — I’m coming over!”
Hazel’s eyes brightened. “Really?”
“Yes! I’ll visit you and Sofia tomorrow. We’ll cook something together.”
Sofia immediately grabbed the phone from Hazel’s hand. “Then I’m making sure you bring dessert, Eliza! I don’t care if you buy it or bake it.”
“Deal!” Eliza said laughing, and they talked for a few more minutes before hanging up.
Hazel stood there smiling after the call, still holding the phone in her hand. She hadn’t realized how much she missed this warmth — the sound of Eliza’s laugh, the way Sofia teased, the feeling of belonging.
After they were done arranging things in the apartment, Sofia looked around. “We’ll need groceries,” she said, brushing off the dust from her jeans.
Hazel nodded. “Yes. Even if you’ll be visiting often, I should get used to this place. In emergencies, I need to know where to find everything.”
“Good thinking,” Sofia said proudly. “Alright, let’s go get what we need.”
They left the apartment and walked out of the building. The sun was setting, painting the sky in shades of gold and pink. The colony glowed under soft streetlights — trimmed hedges, clean pavements, and marble fountains in the center. Expensive cars passed slowly, their engines quiet and polished, while guards at every corner bowed politely to residents passing by. It was a place where money whispered, not shouted — the kind of neighborhood where even silence carried elegance.
As they walked, a woman in her early fifties approached from the opposite direction. Her posture was upright and graceful. She wore a cream-colored silk blouse, pearl earrings, and her perfume carried a subtle floral scent. Her hair, tied in a neat bun, shone under the lights.
Sofia recognized her instantly and smiled. “Mrs. Han!”
The woman smiled back kindly. “Oh, Sofia, dear. It’s been so long! I heard you returned to the capital.”
