"Surprise." Mabel said.

I was speechless.

I was angry.

I was sad.

I was..... confused.

I looked at her and all she had was a confused smile on her face. Mikey had his eyebrow raised. I didn't want to deal with anything at the moment. I just walked down the stairs with Mikey behind me.

"Gerard, honey, let me explain." Mabel said as she tried to keep up. I turned around and looked at her. By the look of her face, she looked scared of me like I was going to hit her. "Alright, explain." I said as I put my hands in my pocket. I really wanted to hear this. "My papa said that you were a loser and nothing more important. I told him that it was a big lie. Then he introduced me to Sonny. He was sweet and nice, but I told him I was married. But he took advantage of me and then you came." she said. "None of this was my fault."

"None of this.? None of this.?!" I shouted. I knew I shouldn't raise my voice to a woman, but I was just too mad. "Yea right." I said as I took off my wedding ring and threw it on the floor as I walked to the front door.

Me and Mikey grabbed our bags and walked out. As we were walking the the side walk, Mabel went to the doorway. "You love me and you know it.! You can't leave me, you're a father.!" she yelled at me. Couldn't she come up to me. Because everyone on the street heard and was staring at me and Mikey.

Me and Mikey went to a bar and ordered a couple rounds. "You alright.?" Mikey asked. I take a big gulp and let the strong alcohol run down my throat. "I'm alright I guess." I said as I put my cup in front of the bartender.

"That wasn't exactly how I wanted to come home to." I said as I pulled my hair back. "You are a father, what are you going to do about that.?" Mikey asked. "I have no idea. I'll find out after war." I said. After what happened, my life is just downhill. My wife just cheated on me. And I need a divorce. But I wasn't sure, she is the mother of my child. I might as well live with mama since she took the house.

I hope I die in war.

-few months later-
-April 9-

"Happy birthday dear, Gerard, happy birthday to you.!" everyone sang and clapped. I blew out my candles and smiled. "Happy birthday." Mikey said as he clapped. Everyone got a slice of cake and ordered a couple rounds for me.

Ever since the whole, Mabel incident, me and Mikey have basically been living at the bar. We basically knew everyone there.  After everything was said and done, we had to head out to war in a few weeks. With Mikey, everything was happy. He was everything to me now. I don't know what I'd do without him.

It started getting dark out so me and Mikey went upstairs to the "room" we had. It was basically an abandoned walk in closet. I laid down on the hammock under Mikey. "Call top bunk.!" he said as he jumped on. "Move your butt.!" I said as I pushed it up. "Not my fault I got a butt bigger than yours." he said as scooted down.

"Gerard.?" Mikey said. "Yes Mikey.?" I answered back. "Are we going to survive.?" he asked. I thought for a second. I was going to protect Mikey. So I knew he wasn't going to die. "Definitely." I said with a smile.

Mikey turned off the light and went to sleep. I didn't on the other hand.

*flashback*

I passed by a lot of buildings with war signs all over. That'll be me one day. A solider. I get distracted by looking at all the signs I bump into someone. Ouch.

I lose my balance but don't fall back. I bumped into a girl. She fell and started rubbing her forehead. "Oh my gosh. I'm sorry." I said as I reach over to help her up.

She loses her balance and I catch her. She picks her head up from my chest and looks at me. She gives me a small smile and stand upright. She looks down and pulls her hair to the back of her ear. "Sorry." she said as she looks up at me.

"It's nothing." I said as I fix my hair. "What's your name.?" she asks. "Um, Gerard." I said trying not to make this awkward. "Hi I'm Mabel" she says as she shakes my hand. I smile at her. She was really pretty. She had soft brown hair in place. She wore red lipstick and a green dress. It looked like war uniform.

I don't know why but. She made me have this feeling in my chest. Like when I look at Elena. What was the word.? Love. But I just met her. How.?

"Well, I better get going." she said as she walked away. She looked back at me and continued to walk. Wow.

I woke up to reality and stopped thinking about her. I couldn't. I tried. I couldn't. She was still a big part of my life. Who knows, maybe it's not my child. Maybe it's Sonny's.

I decided to ignore it and go to sleep.

"Brother.!" Mikey yells as flickers the light off and on. "Ugh, what.?" I complain as I pull the blanket over my head. "Up.! Up.! Up.!" he shouts trying to mock drill sergeant. I couldn't help but let out a chuckle.

"Boys.! Breakfast.!" Lydia, the bartender, yells. We call her mama since she treats us like one. Mikey jumped off the hammock and pulled me off making a thud sound as I hit the ground. "Ow." I whisper. Mikey pulls me downstairs, hitting my head on every step. Ow.

"Come boys." Lydia says as she sets down our breakfast on the table. I get up and sit down next to Mikey. "What are the plans for today.?" Lydia asks as she pours a glass of water for me and Mikey. "Sitting around here." I answer. "Come one boys, go do something that you'll regret. You'll be going to war soon." Lydia said. Mama never told us to do that. She always said to do the right thing. Lydia was a rebel.

It was like a new environment for us.

After breakfast me and Mikey went for a walk. It started getting hot outside so we didn't take a long walk. We passed by my house. I decided to not look at it for long so I turned my head. We got to another street that looked oddly familiar.

"I feel like I know this place." I said as I put my hands in my pocket. We walked further down the street and I had deja vu.

*flashback*

We walked to her house. I went to a part of the neighborhood I've never been to. I've always been cooped up in the house all the time. She lived in a nice house. Fresh paint, bushes trimmed. Wow.

I snapped out of it when I heard a man yell "Hey.!" at me. I knew that voice. And I knew exactly where I was.
