I grabbed the envelope Mikey sent me. I looked at the address and headed off there.Walking there was pretty far. After a while I decided to get a cab. With my luck, a cab was coming. I whistled and waved to it. The cab stopped and I got in.
"You're that solider.! I'll take you anywhere for free.!" the taxi driver said. I looked at my uniform. Oh yea. I showed him the address on the envelope, and we headed off.
I stared out the window and looked at all the families with children playing around and having a good time. It made me think of Mabel. But I didn't want to think of her now. I didn't want her to be in any part of my life anymore.
We pulled up to the house. "Thank you sir." I said as I got out. "Anything for you." he said as he drove off.
I took a deep breath and walked over to the front door. I rang the doorbell and waited patiently. Then, she opened the door.
"Hey mama." I said. She looked around and only saw me. "Where's my Mikey.?" she asked in concern. I didn't say anything. "No." she said. Tears came out of her eyes as he backed up and sat down.
I walked in and closed the door behind me. I hugged her and rubbed her back. I felt just as bad.
I let go and pulled out Mikey's glasses. She cried even more when she saw them. She grabbed them and held them up into the light. "Oh Mikey. My sweet Mikey." she cried. "Why couldn't they taken you.?"
That set me off. I stood up and had a serious face on. "I'm sorry mama. For anything I did. You gave me your trust and I broke it. But it's been about three years mama. You can't just leave me like that. I love you. I went to war to earn your respect. I protected Mikey with my whole life. I would've sold my soul for his safety. But I failed. And you have every right to hate me." I said. After that, mama surely wouldn't forgive me.
She stood up and hugged me. What did this mean.?
"I'm so happy you came home." she cried. "We all carry on." I whispered
"Are you hurt.?" she asked as she let go. "Only with my legs and my tongue." I answered. She was just happy that I was okay and home.
I was happy that I was okay and with my mama.
"I got a surprise." I said. I grabbed her hand and went in her car.
I drove off to the house. She hasn't seen it in ages. "Where are we going.?" she asked. "You'll see." I answered. "But I want to kno-" she froze when she saw the house. "Is that.?"
"Yup." I said. She got out of the car and looked at the house. She covered her mouth with her hands and looked at me.
"Welcome home." I said.
-two weeks later-
Me and mama lived in the house like a family again. "Dinner.!" Mama yelled from the kitchen. "I'll be right back Elena." I said to the compass before running downstairs. "Stuffed meat roll.?" I asked as I entered. "You got it." Mama said with a chuckle.
Before I could sit down, I heard the door bell. "I got it.!" I yelled as I ran to the door.
There took a person I'd never think I'd see in a million years.
