Mason was waiting when Sky walked through the door. Sky walked into the kitchen and set Xandra into a high chair. She started to take variouse items out of the fridge so she could prepare some supper. Mason walked into the kitchen and opened his mouth as if he wanted to say something but Xandra started to fuss and cry. Sky picked her up and sat down in a chair, she proceeded to breast feed her. She then looked at Mason and gave him a tight smile. "I know you want to talk about this morning but I would like to put Xandra to bed before we talk about this."
"Okay, I'll make supper."
"Thank you," Sky replied and turned her full attention to the baby in her arms.
After Sky put Xanndra into her crib she returned to the kitchen slowly, purposefully avoiding the conversation ahead.
"Sky? You coming to eat supper?" Mason said as he poked his head around the doorframe of the kitchen area.
"Yeah, on my way," came the reply.
Mason was sitting at the table waiting for Sky, he looked up at her when she walked in. As she sat down he started to scoop the meal on each of their plates. The silence stretched on as they started to eat, each were lost in their thoughts, not wanting to be the first to break the silence with the subject that was looming over their heads.
"Alright, I have to know what happened for you to use my razor this morning," Mason finally said as he wiped his mouth with a napkin and pushing the plate away. Sky looked up and blinked several times before she answered Mason.
"Well, I umm...it...it all started with Jeff," at the mention of his name Mason stiffened and clenched his jaw. "I was getting better at trusting you and..." Sky trailed off and looked at the ground in shame as she told Mason the next words. "and I started feeling sick and I skipped two months but I didn't think much about it, 'cause I'm not regular anyways. But I thought I should go see the doctor just incase I had a serious problem or something. He...he told me I was pregnant," Sky started to cry, she looked away in an attempt to hide her face in shame.
"Well, shit," was all Mason said. He stood up and walked out of the kitchen and came back with a blanket. He placed it over Sky's shoulder and sat heavily back into the chair next to Sky.
"Is there any chance that it could be mine?" Sky shook her head.
"No. Most likely not."
"Okay. Is that why you used my razor this morning?" Sky nodded but didn't speak. "Why? What did you think you would accomplish by doing that?" Mason asked out of curiosity. After a couple of minutes of silence Sky finally answered.
"I didn't want to live anymore. I don't want to be a burden and I don't want to carry a child that will be hated by us because of the way it was conceived," Sky told him truthfully. Mason nodded and stood up, he said goodnight and left the room, Sky put her head in her hands and sobbed. Big tears streamed steadily down her face and every time she thought she was all cried out they started all over again. After an hour of full out sobbing Sky finally stopped, she sniffled a few more times and then got up to get ready for bed. She crawled under the covers and fell asleep within seconds.
For the next six months it was very tense between the couple, they barely spoke except to say what was necessary. Sky kept to herself in the fields, she didn't want Lucy and the others to question her about the baby. Lucy figured it out without talking to her and she understood; she gave Sky her space.

Sky gripped her very pregnant belly and groaned as a contraction hit her. She stood in the shade of one of the plum trees away from everyone, so no one saw her contorted face and the way she gripped her mid-section. She straightened after a couple of seconds after the contraction stopped. Sky picked the next fruit rom the tree like nothing happened. I can do this. I can wait another three hours before this workday is over. I can do this. It's not too long. Sky kept thinking over and over again. She kept working but stopped every time a wave of pain swept through her. By the end of the shift her contractions where very close together, and she knew that she had to go to the hospital area ASAP.
As soon as the bell rang to signal the end of the work day rang, Sky was out of the Volcano. She wobbled as fast as she could to the hospital area; a nurse led her to one of the beds.
Sky was left alone for a good ten minutes, and every contraction got closer together and more painful. Her eyes were closed, just getting over the last one when a voice spoke on her left.
"Why didn't you tell me you were in labour?" Sky opened her eyes, knowing instantly the owner of the voice.
"I...what are you doing here Mase? How did you know I would be here?" She said in a shaky voice.
"This was one of the only places you would be, plus Lucy saw you clutching your abdomen in a very suggestive way, by the way, those are her words not mine," Mason said the last part with a chuckle. His chuckle died as soon as he saw the pain written on Sky's face, he took her hand in his and let her squeeze it. "I am here for you, don't ever doubt that. I should have told you this sooner but I don't care that the baby isn't mine. I will treat her or him as if it were my own flesh and blood."
"That's great Mase. Now get the doctor." Mason hesitated, not wanting to leave her alone yet not wanting to disobey Sky, he ran towards the doctors office as fast as he could. Mason came back with the doctor, after checking he told Sky to start pushing. After many hours of hard labour a baby finally slid out of Sky.
"You did it. I am so proud of you," Mason said as he stroked her hair.
"Fucking hell Mase, you're proud? What are you my father?" Sky responded.
"It's a boy," the doctor told the pair interrupting their banter; he left to wash the baby and himself.
Mason and Sky looked at each other, Sky smiled as she saw the look of pure love cross Masons face when the baby was placed into his arms.
