The next few months Sky and Mason talked more about their families and their childhood. Little by little Sky revealed her past, how she grew up in a home where her family held secrets from each other and how her mother would have a nasty temper when you did something wrong. Many times she came really close to telling him what she saw in the woods so many years before, she didn't find the courage to tell him why she went to live with her aunt, even when he asked. The couple grew closer as the time passed and as they got to know each other a little more, for example, Sky learned that Mason broke his arm at age seven because he fell off his bicycle as he tried to land a jump at the park near their house.

Sky gave birth to twin boys, Martin and Daniel. Mason was over joyed and couldn't wait to bring them to the apartment. Sky slept in the infirmary that night, and Mason stayed with her, he had made sure that their other children were at Lucy's and Mattie's. Mason watched as Sky slept, he remembered how they met and how he thought that she was a weird girl. She was shy almost scared of her own shadow, it must have been because of her family, Mason thought as he absent-mindedly traced circles on Sky's arm. His thoughts drift to the day that Mattie disappeared. He could still see the uniformed officer talking to his mother about a description on what Mattie had been wearing that day. He remembered how angry he was when Mattie hadn't come home because he had promised that he was going to help Mason with his math homework and then they were going to practice throwing the football so that Mason could be on the team in high-school. The sinking feeling that Mattie was gone and never coming home settled into the young boys stomach. The police stopped looking after three months because another kidnapping was reported. Mason also remembered how every time someone called he expected it to be Mattie calling and telling them he was safe and just wanted to get away from the town and it's people. For the first year Mason kept expecting Mattie to walk through his door and tell him to get up and get outside to practice his kick or his throw. Mason was ashamed of how he handled his brothers disappearance, how he threw himself into sports, that was one of the things he was not ashamed of but the other stuff, like the booze and the girls and how he even dabbled into drugs but at least he had the sense to stop before he got hooked to something serious. He had thought that he needed the high of a joint to get rid of his sadness and guilt of not being the one to be gone and how his trusting brother could have ended up being kidnapped. He had felt that he should have been there instead of making an excuse and skipping his brothers' game.

"Hey, you okay?" A soft voice questioned beside Mason, pulling him out of his past and back into the infirmary.

"Yeah, just thinking about the past," he answered as he wiped a tear away from his cheek.

"Thinking about how you should have gotten a room with that chick you were groping in my front yard that night I cursed you out in front of all your drunken friends," Sky asked with a smirk. Mason laughed and shook his head.

"You had such a temper, and you kept it up way into this kidnapping."

"You're wondering what happened to it and why I seem so...different. Well, it's mostly because of the kids but I blame thus shit-hole. I feel like it's draining me of my life. I want out, I don't want this life for our kids," Sky whispered in a defeated tone.

"You're not alone," Mason replied while squeezing her hand in his.

A few days later Mason and Sky with their twins got out of the infirmary and headed back to their apartment. Sky stopped abruptly in the middle of the hallway, and Mason looked at her in confusion.

Sky makes slits with her eyes and turns her head as a man walks by, she gasps slightly. This makes the man pause and turn in her direction.

"Oh my..." she trailed of and practically ran to catch up with Mason, who was standing in confusion once more.

"Hey! What the fuck are you two doing in the hallway? Huh? Do you want to get a beating?" The man slowly makes his way towards them. Sky backs up, but doesn't answer. So Mason does instead.

"We just came from the infirmary, and it's our week off. Here, our passes," Mason holds out two passes to show the man. He nods in acknowledgment and frowns slightly at Sky as if he were trying to decipher a hard puzzle but shrugs and turns to walk away.

"Are you ok? Do you need to sit?" Mason asked a very pale Sky.

"N-no, I-I'm good. It's just that he looked familiar, as if I've seen him before," She replied after a couple of minutes of taking deep breaths.

"Do you mean, someone from before you moved to our town?" Mason asked as they slowly made their way towards their door.

"Yes, I think he was the son of one of my fathers' friends," She whispered. Her eyes became round and she made an O formation with her mouth as she remembered whom he was. "Sam!"

"What? Who the fuck is Sam,"

"He was...er, is the eldest son of Blair, a man that was, and most likely still is, my fathers closest friend and business partner. This is not good, not good at all," Sky said, as if to herself and sped walked to the apartment. Mason was confused but had to catch up with Sky before he could ask her any more questions. Once inside the apartment Sky laid little Marty into his crib and started to pace back and forth in front of the crib. Mason walked in a few seconds later and put Danny in beside Martin. He turned towards Sky and said, with his arms folded,

"Will you explain to me what the fu...what is going on?"

"Yes, let's just go into the kitchen, I'm starving," Sky replied. When they were seated at the table with a meal between them Sky took a deep breath and started to explain all that she could.

"It all started way before either one of us was born. Maybe even before our parents were born..."

"The fuck are you trying to tell me? I don't want a story; I want to know what happened back in that hallway," Mason cut her off. He was annoyed and confused by how Sky was explaining it to him.

"This is bigger than all of us, and for you to understand what is going on I have to tell you all of it. So, stop interrupting and try to keep an open mind about all of this."

"Fine, whatever, continue," Mason waved a hand in her direction and slumped in his chair.

"As I was saying, it all started way before either of us was born. It started on the day that my father was born..."
