Many sleepless nights went by, as Sky and Mason took care of their new child, which they called Jack. The little fella took many months to sleep through the night; the days passed in a blur, mostly because they were so tired and taking care of two children, which is no easy task. Sky and Mason took joy in seeing all the firsts that their two little bundles brought to them. As a family they were happy but as a couple Mason and Sky still needed work. They were all smiles and laughter with the children but as soon as they were in bed the parents lose their smiles, stop their laughter and silence fills the air.
Four months pass, Sky goes through the movements of life, she barely talks to Mason, she goes to the fields, comes home, mumbles a hello how was your day, doesn't really listen to his response, feeds the kids, puts them to bed, eats supper and goes to bed. Mason does much of the same, but as he slides under the cover and usually thinks to say something to Sky he finds out that she is already asleep.
One night, when Jack was five months, Sky was not sleeping when Mason went to bed. Instead she was waiting for him, as he slid under the covers she rolled on top of him and started to kiss him. He pulled away with a look of puzzlement.
"What is this..." he was cut off by another kiss.
"Shhh, shhh, shhhh, Shhhhh... I am super horny, just don't argue."
"I ain't arguing, bring it on sista."
"No, don't sister me, you're killing the mood," Sky said with a shake of her head.
"Won't happen again," he said with a partial smile, he leaned upwards and kissed her nose; she giggled and kissed him on the mouth.

"Congratulations you're pregnant," the doctor informed Sky three months later.
"Fuck, again?" Sky mumbled at the news. She had been feeling sick the last few days and decided that she should go confirm her suspicions at the doctors.
When she got back to the apartment she fed Jack placed him in bed for the night, she then prepared food for Xandra and gave her supper as well. After putting Xandra to bed she started to make supper for Mason and herself. They ate in silence and then cleaned the table and dishes in silence as well. Before Sky went to bed she turned to Mason and dropped the news. "I'm pregnant." She walked out without waiting for a response. Mason mumbled a 'shit' under his breath stared at the wooden tabletop for a half an hour lost in his thoughts.
Many days later, as the kids had been put to bed and the couple were just finishing up the dishes Mason turned to face Sky.
"Can we talk?" Mason almost pleads. Sky nodded and took a seat at the table, "What about?"
"Us," was all he said.
"Mason, What happened to us? Why is there a bigger gap between us now that I am pregnant again with your child than there was when I was pregnant with Jack? Is it because he doesn't look like you at all or is it because you realize that you could never care for a child that is not yours?" Sky asked slowly. Mason looked at her and frowned, he sat down beside her and took her interlaced hands into his own.
"Sky, I now that I said that I love him like he is my own, but I need time to process and sort some shit out. It's just that lately I've been thinking about what my life would be like if I wouldn't be in this fucking place. I would have graduated from high school, I would have started Uni, I should be in fucking school learning about the laws of gravity and how to correctly solve an equation with five different letters and a shit ton of numbers! And I most certainly did not think that I would be a father two times over and I would fucking adopt one! I am way too fucking young for this shit." Mason ended his rant with a huff.
"Tell me when you figure out your fucked up thinking and want to deal with your current problems, I will be here waiting and taking care of our two children and the little shrimp in the oven," Sky said angrily, she stood up and walked out of the kitchen.
Sky, I'm sorry, I just needed to vent and you are the only one I can talk to about the outside," Mason said as he ran up beside her in the bathroom. Sky turned and gave Mason a look but didn't comment. "Sky, we made a promise to each other don't you remember, I would like to be good on that promise and you know that this," he gestured around the room. "Will be easier to deal with, when there is a person we can trust and talk to. To have actual conversations with," Mason finished off.
"I guess that is true, plus growing up in a home where the parents are dicks and ignore their children and argue all the fucking time is no fun," Sky's eyes got a far away look as if she were in another time and place.
"Do you speak from experience?"
"I...I am going to bed now."
"Sky, we need to talk and have discussions, and this is a subject that we need to cover. We need to be able to tell our children about our parents and swap parenting advise that was handed down from them. For example, my mom used to tuck us in at night and sing a lullaby before she kissed our forehead. What did your parents do to tuck you in at nigh, you know before you went to live with your aunt?"
"Can I skip this question?"
"No, I want to know so we can decide how to tuck our children in at night," Mason said stubbornly.
"Fine, all I can remember is my brothers locking the door after they put me to bed, my parents didn't have time for us children. They were always busy doing stuff, I have no idea what but they never tucked us in or even gave us much time. I mean it was different when gramps was alive but I don't really remember much about him, except that he always smelt like perfume. I was five when he died, and my dad took over his business and mom had two little girls to take care of so I was left alone most days. So they let the boys put me to bed, so yeah..." Sky trailed off and walked out of the bathroom and slid under the covers, she was soon joined by Mason.
"I shouldn't have pried into your past like that. I should have known you didn't want to talk about it, I mean you did live with your aunt. We don't have to talk about your family ever again, if that's what you want," Mason spoke after many minutes of silence. Sky didn't say anything for a good minute.
"No, I really need to talk about them, but this is not the best time to do so. I am tired and we have work in the morning. Goodnight Mase," Sky replied, then she turned on her side and fell asleep almost instantly.
"Goodnight Sky, and sweet dreams," Mason replied quietly into the darkness.
