CHAPTER 115
SCARED TO LOSE YOU
Sanju didn't need to hear the words to understand what the other agents were thinking. It was because of her. The photos. The threat. Because she had ended up chasing Imam. Perhaps, if she had been more careful... She sighed deeply, rubbing her aching arm. The pain from her shoulder travelled down to her arm, and it was stiff and tender.
The three had assured her vehemently that it wasn't her fault. She kind of agreed. She hadn't done anything wrong, per se. More like she didn't do something right. Either way, she was definitely the trigger to it. And now, they had eyes on Siddharth. In the picture, he was out with the cadets, his head thrown back in laughter, his eyes twinkling. Perhaps, if she had been more adamant in hiding their relationship, he wouldn't be in the line of fire. Monami wasn't. They had no idea she was Karan's girlfriend, or even that he had one. Perhaps, if she had made an effort to conceal it, he wouldn't be in danger right now.
"Ma'am, aap theek ho?" Monami asked softly. Her eyes lifted to hers. She wasn't in danger. All because Karan was smart enough to hide her. He had been so adamant in that. Barely anyone knew about them. "Dard ho raha hai kya zyaada?"
"Nahi", she muttered, shaking her head. "Hume kuchh naa hua hogo."
She didn't look convinced, but she didn't ask again which was all that Sanju was concerned about. She didn't quite have the capacity to answer her questions. It was rare that Sanju ever let herself wallow in the consequences of her brashness, but she couldn't help but conjure the image of Siddharth's picture.
If only she didn't love him as much.

"Kya hua?" Monami said, her voice muffled from where her face was pressed against Karan's chest.
Karan exhaled, shaking his head. "Kuchh nahi", he muttered. He pulled away slightly, offering her a smile. "Aapko hug karne ke liye, reason chahiye, Rani Sahiba?"
She didn't smile back though, eyeing him. "Kuchh hua hai, na?"
His smile faded. "Bas kaam hai, Monami", he muttered, kissing her forehead. "Tumhe chinta karne ki zaroorat nahi hai." He moved past her, not wanting to meet her inquisitive eyes that seemed to search his soul. He looked down at his desk, his gaze drifting to the drawer, where the photos were kept.
Her hands gently touched his back, leaning her head against it. "Aap itne stress mein ho. Mujhe kaise nahi hogi chinta?"
He turned around, facing her. "Tum ho, na, saath mein? Sab theek hai", he muttered. "Bas... kabhi mujhse door mat jaana." He pressed another kiss to her head, pulling her closer in a hug again. He wasn't strong enough to be okay if they threatened her. He wouldn't be able to take the guilt, the stress. He pulled away after a second. "Achha... kuchh tha tumhaare liye."
Her eyes lit up. "Sacchi?"
He smiled, reaching back into the desk. He grabbed the small box, opening it. A pendant sat inside, and her eyes widened as she stared at it. It was pretty simple, a little heartbeat shaped charm sat in the middle of the long, golden chain but her eyes almost shone in happiness. "Happy 6 months, meri jaan", he muttered.
She looked up at that, offering him a happy smile. "Thank you", she said, turning around and sweeping her hair aside in an obvious invitation, and he clasped it around her neck, pressing a kiss to her shoulder before pulling away. "Main hamesha isko pehenkar rakhungi." His smile widened. "Waise... aapke liye bhi tha kuchh."
His eyebrows raised in surprise. She smiled shyly. "Mere liye?"
She held out her hand. "Aankh band karo, aur haath do." He obediently followed, holding out his right hand. His gaze snapped open instinctively, when something cool slid on his middle finger. A ring. He stared at it, curling his fingers and bringing it up closer to inspect. It was a plain, titanium band, polished well, and he had no doubt it was of impeccable quality. He tilted it slightly, his gaze catching on the familiar glint at the edge. Diamond? Sharp. "Mujhe pata hai aap zyaada jewelry nahi pehente, isliye itna plain liya tha." His gaze snapped to hers, listening to her nervous rambling. She was so sweet. "Par agar aapko pasand nahi aaya-"
