Chapter 93

796 95 26

A promise.

He will live.
He will survive this.
Not because it's easy.
Not because he's strong.

But because Jungkook asked him to.

And Taehyung has always loved him too much to ever break that promise. But today he also promises one thing to himself, that this is not an end.

No this just a a end of the chapter and not the end of their story.

Jungkook belonged to him just like he belonged to him. And he will have him back, one day.

Jungkook didn't cry when his friends, left and now again it was just quiet again.

He sat on his bed, hands folded in his lap, staring at the wall like something inside him had already shut down.

"I promise," he had said to them earlier, voice hollow. "I won't talk about him again. I won't say his name. Ever."

The same thing kept repeating in his mind, like a mantra, like he was trying to remember it. Like he doesn't want to forget that promise.

From that day on, Jungkook kept his promise.

Taehyung's name never crossed his lips again, even when his heartbeat screamed his name.

Not when his chest hurt for no reason.
Not when songs reminded him of late-night calls.
Not when he dreamt of hands holding his face gently.

He erased him from his voice—but not from his bones.

Jungkook became quiet. Not the shy, soft quiet he used to be.

A different kind. A hollow one. Where silence became the only voice he had.

He woke up early.
Sometimes exercised a hobby he is trying to develop from some days.
Attended online classes from the living room.
Ate whatever was placed in front of him.
Did his assignments.
Slept.

Repeat.

He spoke only when necessary. One-word answers. Polite. Detached.

He avoided sitting with his family. Not out of anger—out of absence. Like he wasn't really there anymore. And honestly on one really cared if he spoke with them or not.

His room door stayed open. Always.
No locks. No privacy. Just like his brothers wanted

His laptop stayed in the living room.

He complied. Always. No resistance. No rebellion, a son that his father wanted.

The only time his face softened was with Nari.

He would hold her gently, let her tiny fingers curl around his, and for a moment—just a moment—something human flickered in his eyes.

Nari didnt know what happened to his koo, but she did realise that koo didnt play her like usual, maybe she just sensed his sorrow.

So she would always kiss his face multiple times, until jungkook smiled, filling tickles on his face.

maybe she was trying in her own way to make him smile, a habit she has recently developed. Sometimes, kook would just hold her in his arms to feel human again, to feel the warmth and love, that he was craving so bad, but he was receiving nothing from so his so called family.

But when she was gone, so was that light, in his eyes.

Jungkook stopped smiling.

Not dramatically. Not suddenly. But gradually his withdrawal was, just there, not planned but something that happened over time.

It just... faded. Weeks passed. His family didn't try talking to him, nor did they try to be with him like in the past.

He lost weight. His eyes dulled. His shoulders slumped like he was carrying something invisible and unbearably heavy.

At night, he stared at the ceiling, replaying memories he would never say out loud. His eyes wet and tears not stopping no matter how much he tries to stop, no matter how much he wanted to forget everything but,  closing his eyes, all he could remember was Taehyung.

His laugh.
The way he said bun.

his kisses,

his caring yet possessive nature.
The warmth of his arms, and his would water, he kept crying silently for some time before sleep took over.

Jungkook didn't self-harm again.

He kept that promise, too. Never picked up blade, like how he really wanted to do some days. On days he just wanted to end it all, but he couldn't, not because he feared death, but because he feared how would Tae react? how would he live knowing kook died.

Also for him, this was a kind of punishment he was giving himself, for not choosing Tae, for not accepting his love. For not leaving with tae, when he had chance. Because

He would also eat, not like before, or the way he liked eating before. But enough to survive.

But in some ways, he did something worse.

He erased himself. He became obedient. Silent. Empty.

And everyone mistook that for healing. Well, not everyone, his mother knew, the truth, so did Irene. But his father and brothers, they acted as if, jungkook was ill earlier, now he is recovering.

But Jungkook knew the truth.

He hadn't moved on.

He had simply buried a part of himself alive.

And somewhere far away, a ring sat in Taehyung's hand—proof that once, before the world broke them, they had loved each other enough to ruin themselves.

Now both boys, in different side of the country, away from each other, yet so close.

Both of them aware of the mess they are in but still believing in their love and in their heart. While Jungkook has left hope of anything positive happening in his heart, Taehyung on the other hand, was just controlling himself for the sake of Jungkook, for the sake that Jungkook himself understands and realizes that his family would never choose him, they would never choose jungkook over their so called respect and honor.  Otherwise he knew one thing and that is, Jungkook is his, and will always be his, he wont let anyone come in between them, its just matter of time.

Until Jungkook completes his studies, and maybe then he is willing to leave his family.
