Chapter 73

Jungkook never realized how much he depended on Taehyung's presence until he had to go two whole days without him.

It was excruciating, His brothers were around constantly, which meant no calls, no sneaking off to hear Taehyung's voice. His phone remained tucked away in his pocket, occasionally vibrating with a new message.

Hope <3: I miss you so much it's painful.

Hope <3: Are you okay?

Hope <3: Just one call? Please?

Jungkook read the messages repeatedly, but he couldn't risk answering. Not with Jin and Jae watching him like hawks.

So he could only send short replies.

Jungkook: I miss you too. I swear, I do.

Jungkook: Hyungs are around all the time. I can't risk it please?

Jungkook: I'll see you soon.

It wasn't enough.

The absence of Taehyung's voice, his touch, his warmth—it gnawed at Jungkook relentlessly. He had gotten so used to having Taehyung in his life every single day that now, without him, everything felt... off.

His chest felt too tight, his thoughts too loud. Even when he was with his brothers, smiling, laughing, part of him was somewhere else.

With Taehyung.

The worst part was at night.

Lying in bed, phone clutched in his hands, resisting the urge to call him.

His fingers hovered over the screen.

He could do it. Just a quick call. Just to hear his voice.

But before he could, a message popped up.

Hope<3: I know you can't talk. But just know I love you. So much.

Jungkook swallowed hard, heart clenching.

Jungkook: I love you too. More than you know.

It wasn't enough.

But for now, it was all they had for now.

That night, Jin and Jae were getting ready to head back to Busan. Jungkook's semester was starting again the next day, so they decided to drop him off at the college and look around the campus before leaving.

"Show us where the genius studies," Jin said, slapping Jungkook's back with a grin.

They walked around the campus together. Jungkook pointed out the library, his main classroom building, and his dorm. Jin took a few pictures, laughing here and there. Jae was quiet for the most part.

As they walked near the back of the student center, they passed two boys standing close under the walkway lights. Jungkook noticed them too late.

One of the boys leaned in and kissed the other. It was a simple, quick kiss—but it was clear what it was.

Jungkook froze for half a second, heart jumping in his chest. He knew something was coming, he felt it in his heart.

He could feel Jae stiffen beside him. Gulping hard  he barely looked at the Jin  who just glanced over at the boys but didn't react. He just kept walking, acting like it was nothing.

But Jae stared a moment longer, then turned to Jungkook as they walked again.

"You know," Jae said casually, "this place might seem chill, but you should still be careful. Not everyone's cool with everything. Don't get involved in... stuff that'll complicate things."

Jungkook didn't say anything. He just nodded slightly, looking straight ahead. He knew what it meant. He very well knew what he hyung was trying to say.

Jae continued, still calm but more firm this time. "Stick with normal people, yeah? Don't lose focus."

Normal people 

He wanted to correct his brother, that they are normal too, they are just as normal as any other person on the planet. But he knew better.

The words hurt more than Jungkook expected. They weren't said directly, but he knew what Jae meant.

They reached the car park, and after a few hugs and goodbyes, Jin smiled and said, "Take care, Jungkookie. Study well. I know you are smart to know what is right and wrong."

He patted his head , "Take care of yourself. We will be waiting for you in your next semester break"

Jae gave him a short nod and side hug "See you soon. Make smart choices. Make us proud"

Jungkook stood there and watched their car leave. Waited till he knew that he can breath properly.

He waited until they were completely out of sight before pulling out his phone.

'They left' he texted 
'I miss you. So much.'
 'I need to see you.'

A few seconds passed.

Then his phone lit up.

Hope <3: Video call. Now.

Jungkook didn't wait, before his phone lit up. He just walked to sit on the near by bench before picking up the called. He feared that his legs might just give up at any moment.
