The Next Month

Things finally seemed to be going my way. No Briana, no Josh, and no Anna. Until now...

In a tight cluster, Briana, Josh, and Anna right by my locker.

I approached slowly, wondering if I was going to get jumped again. Speaking of that, my bruises were turning red and pink. Yay!

The whispers stopped when the locker dial spun. I took a few books out and closed it gently.

Oh no, they were surrounding me! What does one do when faced with crisis?

"We need to talk to you."

I sighed in relief. No physical but verbal.

"Yes?"

"We have something for you." Briana held up a piece of printer paper. It had fancy writing on it.

That's when I noticed Briana dressed with eyeglasses, a pencil skirt, and a white blouse. Her hair was in a bun. Josh wore a shirt and tie with dark blue jeans. Anna looked more casual with white skinny jeans, ugg boots, and a slightly bulky sweatshirt.

"Paper with fancy writing." I snorted. The others looked anything but amused.

"This states that you will not under any circumstances, ever, tell anyone in this school, neighboring areas, family, country, and other countries, that Anna is carrying a baby." Briana informed me in a business-like voice.

"You mean that she's pregnant?" Josh whispered.

"Yes." Briana and Anna hissed.

"Fine." I took the paper and pen out of Briana's hand. I signed my name in cursive writing, which looked really horrible.

"Fine? That's it?" Briana asked in disbelief.

Anna jabbed Briana in the side. "No need to question her. She signed it, that's all that needs to be done."

Briana blushed and turned away. Josh led them all away.

Well, off to health class-

"Kylie Henderson, can you please come to the office? Kylie Henderson, thank you."

I groaned. Hopefully I wasn't in any trouble.

When I got there, my mom was signing a clipboard.

"Where are we going?" I asked, recognizing the sign-out sheet.

"Natalie's having her babies." I froze. "We need to go, hurry!"

I nodded and raced to my locker.

The Hospital - January 18 - 1:00 PM

"Come meet the newest addition to the Henderson family." Dr. Chance said softly.

Natalie had been in labor for six hours. Not so much compared to others the male nurse told us.

"You go first, Conner." Mom squeezed his hand.

Conner smiled and rushed into the room.

"Mom, do you think I'll be in Natalie's position?"

"Have a caring husband, babies, and a scholarship?" I nod. She smiled. "Maybe, but you'll have your babies later, right?" She flicked my nose playfully.

"Right."

1:10 PM

"Come in, Kye." Natalie's soft voice wafted through the door. I finally joined my brother and mother.

Two plump babies wrapped in pink blankets rested in Natalie's arms.

"Paige and Peyton Henderson." Natalie whispered, staring at her daughters with affection.

Conner watched Natalie with stern eyes. "You can hold them, Kye." Natalie insisted.

"Seriously?"

"Yeah." Natalie yawned. "I'm tired. Here."

Conner and my mom helped me hold them both. "Paige is the one with the blue eyes. Peyton has brown eyes.

"Pretty brown hair." I tried to feel them but remembered that I had two newborns in both of my hands.

"They're so gorgeous." Mom gushed, ruining the peaceful moment.

Nurse Nate suddenly came into the room with those tub things that hold the newborns. "The twins need to go in here."

I carefully gave Nurse N the babies.

Conner, Mother, and I watched the babies roll out the room.

Mom, breaking the silence, exclaimed. "Time for wedding plans!"

Thursday

The next day, I didn't have to go to school. Thanks to Peyton and Paige.

"What color do you think her favorite color is?" My mom asked.

My mother and I sat on the couch, going through wedding magazines.

"Her favorite color is purple." I said confidently.

"Why are you so sure?"

"I just know."

Flashback

"Natalie, how come you keep changing your bed-sheet color?" Thirteen year old me asked.

"Because Kye, my favorite color changes alot." Natalie, still a brunette, straightened her pillowcase which was currently baby blue.

"How many times will it change?"

Natalie frowned. "Not much, I have this new color in mind." She held up her furniture catalog. On the glossy cover was a purple bed-set. On the side it said, "The official royal color."

"That'll be your favorite color, forever and ever?" I gasped.

Natalie nodded. "Starting when you turn 14."

I smiled. "It'll stay that way?"

"Isn't that what I said?" I blushed. Natalie giggled. "Yes, Kye. It'll be my favorite color forever."

I frowned. "Until I die." She added.

"Well okay then..." Mom snapped me out of my thoughts.

 "Mom, I always wondered something."

"What's that?"

I bit my bottom lip. "If a boy kisses you, does that mean he likes you?"

Mom rolled her eyes. "I pretty sure if a boy kisses you, it means he likes you."

"Are you sure?" I tilted my head.

My mom giggled. Which I don't know why. "Yes." She stood up. "I'm going to the salon. Coming?"

"No thanks." I waved her off.

When the door shut closed, I stood up and walked towards the kitchen.

I bit my thumbnail and raised my cellphone from my pocket.

I scrolled down a bit till I reached the J's. His was the first J.

I sighed and clicked call.

It rang until someone finally answered. "Hello?"

"James," I scraped my nails across the counter. "We need to talk."
