Friday
"Hey Kylie, I see no one wrote on your locker. That's gotta be some luck. Right?" Elaine, again.
I slammed my locker. "Yep."
"How goes it? I went home early yesterday." She fanned herself with a straw hat. Then she sat it back on top of her pink hair. Wait a minute....pink hair?!
"Elaine!" Kylie gasped at Elaine's pink dyed hair. "Who did that to you?"
"Uh, me." She rolled her eyes.
Kylie instantly turned sad again. "I wore that hat before....," Kylie could've said, before she met Elaine, before she met Anna, before she got her first kiss, before everything turned upside down.
"I know." Elaine smiled. "You started a trend....sorta. It's my new obsession!"
Elaine always obsessed over one thing at a time. Whether it's clothes or food.
I guess pasta is out....
Oh no, the words were about the tumble out. Keep your lips shu-! "Why didn't you tell me you are a stripper?" Damn you, Kylie!
Elaine gasped. She put a hand over her mouth. Kylie raised an eyebrow. She lowered her hand while making her face drop to a look of pure boredom.
"Kylie, soon you'll learn that not everyone can be as perfect as Briana and Nick." She squinted like she couldn't see. "Don't you remember? Your popular friends."
Without another word, she stalked off into the distance.
Saturday
"He proposed!" Was the first thing Kylie heard that morning.
It was Natalie.
Kylie groaned but she got up anyway to see what was the big deal about getting engaged.
"Congrats you two! So.... when is the baby due?" Mom was saying.
Kylie eyes popped out of her head. "Natalie is pregnant?" She asked from the bottom of the staircase.
"Hell ya!" Conner pumped the air with his fist. "Oooh, just look at this ring!" Natalie squealed.
Instead of being as happy as everyone else, Kylie turned to the door to retrieve the newspaper.
The bitter cold weather of Michigan City, Indiana was biting at Kylie's bare legs.
When she bent down, she heard whistling. Was it a bird?
"Hey look, Ethan! This chick has a nice ass!" A guys voice shouted from the right side of Kylie.
Kylie stood up straight to see two boys standing next door to her. With a moving truck in the driveway.
"What the fuck!?" That voice....Ethan? "Oh my god!" Kylie gasped when she noticed Ethan's shaggy black hair, piercing blue eyes, and plump pink lips.
A guy similar to Ethan stood next to him. The same guy who called my ass 'nice'.
"Shut up, Elliot. She has a butt, not an ass. There's a difference." Ethan explained, clearly not knowing it was me.
"You guys!" It was Elaine's voice. "Mom said pick your rooms!"
Once the boys were gone, Kylie ran back into her house to see her mom, brother, and Natalie, pig-pressing their noses at the moving van outside.
"New neighbors!" Conner shouted as soon as Kylie shut the door.
"Come on Kylie! We gotta make welcome cookies!" Kylie's mom shouted.
"Oh brother...," Kylie grumbled.
Saturday - Next Door
Ms. Henderson knocked on the door while Kylie held the cookies.
"Hello?" A women, looking almost the same age as my mother with dark brown hair, green eyes, and a curvy figure answered the door.
"Hi, I'm Kathy. This is my daughter, Kylie. We made you guys cookies as a welcome gift." Kathy Hendserson said.
The lady's face broke out into a grin. "Well hello, I'm Megan Anderson. Our house is pretty hectic, but would you like to come in?"
"Sure." Kathy interrupted before Kylie could protest.
The house was much like Kylie's except bigger since nothing was put out yet.
A little girl with jet black hair ran by. She stopped when she saw the two newcomers. She had green eyes and she looked about seven.
"Elle, say hi to Miss Kathy and Kylie." Mrs. Anderson said. Elle squinted. "Hi Miss Kathy. Hi Miss Bitchy-Kylie."
"What?" Kathy asked like she didn't hear her right. Mrs. Anderson laughed nervously. "Sorry, she's picking up vocabulary from her four older brothers and sisters.
"Four?" Kylie asked. "Yep. Ethan, Elaine, Elizabeth, and Elliot, get down here and meet the neighbors!" She shouted up the stairs.
Elaine came down first. She was dressed in a blue sweater, black shorts, and striped socks.
Elliot, Kylie assumed, came down next. He had dark brown hair and green eyes, much like Elle's.
Ethan jumped from the top of the stairs and face planted on the carpet floor. Elliot and Elaine burst out laughing without even a glance in Kylie's direction.
"Elizabeth!" Megan called again. A tall, light skinned girl with straight brown hair came sultry strutting down the stairs. She looked like a model off the runway with her sweater dress on.
"It's Liz, Mother. Why must you make our names start with the letter 'e'?" Liz asked in a snappy tone.
Megan ignored her. "Liz is the oldest, she's 25. Elliot is 24, Elaine and Ethan are twins, their 16. Finally, Elle is six years old."
"Are you guys new to this town?" My mom finally asked. "Nope, the Anderon's have been around since the twins were born. This neighborhood just seems....safer."
The two women walked into the kitchen. Leaving Kylie to face the Anderson kids.
Liz passed me out the door with her blackberry in her hand.
Elaine, Elliot, and Ethan finally looked my way. "Your our new neighbor?" Elliot asked in disbelief.
"Yep." Kylie said slowly. "Damn, I was wishing for a sexy women, not a 16 year old, nobody." Elliot stated bluntly.
I rolled my eyes. "I wanted a hot 16 year old next door to me, guess I got that!" I said in a 'ha! take that!' sort of way.
"Did you just call my brother hot?"
