Thursday
"Lookin' good." James complimented.
I blush. "Thank you."
James grins. Then he frowns. Which makes me frown. "Why am I here?"
I take a sharp inhale. And exhale slowly. "James, are you and Anna... still an item?"
He shrugged. "I haven't seen her in a while....but I guess."
"Then," I clenched my fist to not punch him. "....we can't see each other anymore."
James looked taken a back. His mouth forms an O and he's not leaning forward anymore.
"It's for the best of me, you, Anna, and our safety."
James stands up abruptly. Making the counter jiggle.
He strides to me and clutched my arms. He stares intensely at my face.
"Why did you decided this?" He demanded.
I gently removed his arms and took a step back. "I think you should leave." I try to keep my voice from quivering but it seemed like I was going to cry.
James huffs and starts for the door. I follow him, wanting to know what he was going to say next.
He stops outside the door. "I'm in love with you, Kylie. Or, at least I was beginning to. Have a nice life."
The door slams, leaving me feeling like a complete bitch.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The following days, James ignored me at all cost. Whenever I get 3 inches close to him, he runs away, engaging in conversations with passing people, or just ignores me.
Anna was getting bigger, along with the twins. The wedding is in two weeks and I have no friends, no life, and my mother is gone constantly.
What else could possibly go wrong?
Be careful of what you say.
Monday
I officially hate Mondays. Well if we had no Mondays, then I would hate Tuesdays.
I'm sitting on the cold bleachers in the middle of winter along with the other 200 juniors outside.
An announcement about who knows what. My uniform was getting smaller so my thighs got a taste of coldness. Unfair.
"Listen up rascals!" Principal Neal shouted from below along with the other 11th grade teachers.
I watched as everyone kept chattering about. Am I the only one who's not talking?
"QUIET!" Shouted Coach Mathis. The loudest adult in the school and super muscular.
It instantly got silent. "Now." Principal Neal adjusted his ridiculous llama earmuffs.
"There has been rumors that there's a pregnant student in this grade level." A few whispers rose.
I looked to Anna who was three rows down. Seated between Briana and James. (Sigh) She was tugging at her long blonde hair nervously.
"Confess, girls. Or you'll be seeing yourself in the guidance office for pregnancy test."
Whats! And snickers grew from the crowd.
I sympathy-sighed at Anna who had her face buried in James' shoulder.
After That...
"She's is so dead."
"Anna's such a wuss. Won't even fess up."
I crinkled my eyebrows at the comments during lunch. How did so many people know? Will Anna blame me?
I searched the cafe, wondering where she had run off to.
I didn't see Anna, but Briana and Nick caught my eye. And they were staring right at me. No angry glares, or sad looks. Just...solemn.
Briana stood up. She wore gray leggings, a white sweater dress, and white flats. Nick stood up too. He wears black baggy jeans and a dark blue Henley. But everyone knows Henley's are out.
I know. They were walking this way. And standing very close! Oh gosh, oh gosh. What does one do when they encounter ex-friends? Pretend they're not there.
Andddddd, they sit down.
I look down at my plate of fries. I wasn't very hungry today.
Nick clears his throat.
I look up hesitantly.
"Hello Kylie." Briana says.
"Hello Briana. Hi Nick."
He nods his head. Briana takes the elastic off her blonde hair. It's gotten longer and more straight.
"Any reason you guys are here?" I chomp down on a fry as soon as the words leave my lips.
Nick turns to Briana. Briana folds her hands on the table.
"We wanted to know if you snitched on Anna." She says slowly.
"No." I automatically say. Making my fry go across the table. I blush in embarrassment. Nick's lips curl in disgust.
"Kylie." She sighs like she's about to give a lecture. "In the future, I want to be a party-planner, lawyer, and a mom." She squints at me. "Do you think you're helping me?"
I shake my head no.
"Exactly!"
Nick puts a hand on Briana's bare shoulder. "Calm it, Bre."
"Sorry Nickles." She puts a hand to her forehead.
Since when did they give each other nicknames? Shows how much we know one another.
"Kylie, we need you to stay away from us." Nick says. Probably getting straight to the point.
"Who's us?" I ask quietly.
"Me, Briana, Anna, James, Olivia, Meredith, Danielle, and..." He looks to Briana again. "What's his name?"
"Future Shawn."
I gulp. "You want me to leave you alone?"
They nod. "I-I can't do that."
Briana's face darkens. "Why. Not." She said through gritted teeth.
"I-I-I..." I sighed in defeat. "Nevermind, I'll stay away from all of you."
"Good." Nick said. Briana just peers at me curiously stringed with suspicion.
Nick tugs on Briana's hand to stand up. "You guys are together again."
Briana smiles like her old self. "Yeah. Josh is out of the picture."
The two stare at each other lovingly. Looks like my past plan back-fired. But now, being here at the moment, I didn't really care.
"Congrats." But they didn't hear me, they were already half way across the cafe. (Sigh) To be in love...
The next chapter is the wedding and I'm so excited! A chapter without drama, remorse, and whatever else. Haha, it's Natalie and Conner's wedding! :)
