Jealous Hearts pt. 2
The afternoon passed by quickly, the tension and laughter from earlier slowly fading into the warmth of the evening. Soon, night settled over Hayvenhurst. The moonlight draped softly across the estate, making everything feel almost magical. Lights twinkled around the backyard, music filled the air, and the once peaceful afternoon transformed into a lively celebration as the party officially began.
Friends, family, and celebrities arrived one by one, and before long, Hayvenhurst was overflowing with laughter, music, and endless conversations that echoed throughout the house. The entire place felt alive, glowing warmly beneath the lights and the soft hum of the party.
With a glass of wine resting in your hand, you wandered around the house, greeting guests here and there, exchanging smiles and small conversations as the night carried on. Eventually, you slipped away toward the quieter side of the room, searching for a little space away from the crowd and noise. And even though you stood there alone for the moment, you still found yourself enjoying the atmosphere around you.
And just when you thought you'd have no one to talk to for the next few minutes, Jackie suddenly appeared beside you and lightly nudged your arm. You turned toward him and immediately smiled. Jackie was dressed in a fitted suit that complemented his figure perfectly, making him look effortlessly handsome tonight.
"Wow," you said, looking him up and down with an impressed grin. "Don't you look nice."
Jackie chuckled softly at the compliment. "Why, thank you."
Then his eyes landed on you properly, and for a moment, he seemed genuinely caught off guard. "Well... you look—" He paused, clearly searching for the right word while admiring you. "Fantastic."
A smile tugged at your lips as Jackie shook his head slightly. "Seriously," he continued. "Nice dress."
You were wearing a simple satin champagne-colored dress with an open back. It wasn't overly extravagant, but it hugged your body perfectly, accentuating your curves most elegantly. Under the warm lights of the room, the fabric almost glowed against your skin.
"Really?" you asked, glancing down at your dress. "You don't think it's too simple for this party? I mean, look around. Most of them are wearing something flashy and blingy."
As your eyes wandered around the crowded room, they eventually landed on a familiar figure across the house.
Michael.
He stood near the center of the party, looking effortlessly charming as he laughed during a conversation with someone beside him. And the moment you recognized who it was, your expression shifted slightly.
"Diana Ross," you murmured quietly under your breath. Jackie followed your gaze before nodding knowingly.
"Oh, Diana," he said casually. "Michael invited her. That boy loves that woman bad."
The comment was innocent, but somehow it still left a small ache in your chest. You already knew how much Michael adored Diana. Everyone did. But seeing them together right now, so close, so comfortable with one another, felt strangely intimate.
Diana's hand rested naturally against Michael's chest while Michael's hand stayed comfortably on her waist as they laughed together. And for some reason, it bothered you more than you wanted to admit.
"Are they a thing now?" you asked, trying your best to sound curious instead of affected.
Jackie glanced at you briefly, almost like he could sense there was more behind your question.
