Chapter 4 (Silver POV)

Silver and Damien turned into their homeroom. As they took their seats in the back the room was peppered with “Hey Silver” and “Looking good Silver’s. She smiled and waved back.

“So, who’s ready to be seniors!” she yelled enthusiastically. The whole homeroom cheered and clapped.

“Hey settle down!” Mrs. Sweb said sternly, she’d always hated them.

“So Silver, I saw you and Damon fighting in the dining hall this morning. You single?” the boy in front of her turned around and asked.

“Not a chance Conrad.” Silver waved her hand away.

“Oh” Conrad turned back around.

“Aw, you really shouldn’t crush hearts. Tis a mortal sin my dear.” Damien finished with his flawless British accent.

“Mortal but unavoidable love.” She countered with her awful British accent. They burst out laughing and Mrs. Sweb shot them a be-quiet look. Finally the bell rang and they were off to English. Nothing new to report, same old rules, even last years’ teacher.

“Ugh Mrs. Twit-mier again” Damien groaned. Her real name was Mrs. Whitmier but in a very Damien-esque way, she was renamed.

“Oh this is where we split. Bye Dam.” She said sadly.

“Bye, see you at lunch.” Damien said.

“That’s so long!” Silver complained.

“I know but we have lunch and study hall” he smiled.

“And gym! And you’ve got a point. Bye!” Silver waved and strode off to Graphics.

“Hey Silver!” another senior girl waved and pulled out a chair.

“Alexi! Hey, how was your summer?” Silver asked. Alexi had been a friend since she first came, never best friends, but close enough to know who each other liked and important things like that.

“Oh, it was incredible. Me and Dawshon were together, like, the entire time.” Alexi said happily. “Aw. You guys are so happy. That’s adorable!” on the outside Silver smiled but on the inside she sighed, wishing that for her and Damon.

“So you and Damon this morning…” Alexi asked without asking.

“Rough Patch. He got mad because I spent a month in Europe with another guy…” Silver said and Alexi’s eyebrows shot up. “Damien” Silver finished and Alexi’s shocked expression melted.

“But he’s gay and, like, your best friend. Why would Damon care?” she questioned.

“He seems to think if it has a dick it’s going to hit on me, no matter if it likes guys, girls, or anything in between.” Silver sighed.

“Sorry, he can be kind of an ass sometimes” Alexi said sympathetically. Graphics and Anatomy flew by. Silver was on her way to lunch when a guy named Drake called

“Silver! You still got the sack?”

“Of course Drake!” Silver pulled out her hacky-sack. It was always with her. She’d picked the game up at Brown’s school freshman year. Here she taught anyone who’d lean, guys mostly. There was an unspoken rule in the game; you never turn down a challenge. Silver kicked it to Drake, who sent it sailing back. Silver kicked it twice, and then over her head, kicked it from behind, twice up front, then back to Drake, who missed it.

“Damn! Where’d you learn that?” he asked, handing her hacky-sack back to her.

“A magician never tells her secrets.” Silver said then strutted towards the dining hall. On nice days Silver and her friends ate outside, while they could before it got cold. She chewed on a BLT wrap as Damien told a very animated story about his calculus teacher. Apparently she had huge, abominable, glasses, and all mis-matched clothes, and worst a lisp. Damien hated lisps, if anyone had one, he couldn’t talk to them. Lisps just drove him crazy.
