Chapter 6 (Silver POV)

“Finally Friday” Silver exclaimed. A lot had changed in that week. She and Damon were ok for more than a couple hours, Damien and Torrie were kind of getting along, but then there was Maika. They’d had a couple awkward, one word conversations but by Thursday Silver just gave up. The boy obviously didn’t want anything to do with her, why bother? She would, every once in a while, catch him staring at her in gym or glancing sideways in art. Damn shame. He’s got the looks, and according to Damien, the personality. Silver still found Maika replacing Damon in some of her day dreams. Why couldn’t she get this boy out of her head? He hated her, she was sure if it.

“Party tonight” Damien said excitedly.

“Awesome I can’t get that four loko shit at home since they made it illegal.” Torrie smiled.

“Tor, not the four loko, do you want to get raped? Just have a beer.” Silver said seriously.

“Ugh fine mom.” Torrie complained. A few hours later the three met up again but Silver had changed into party clothes. She had on black skinny jeans, a metallic silver top, and silver flats.

“Ready?” she asked.

“Um, when am I not ready to party?” Torrie laughed.

About a fourth of a mile from main campus was the party spot. It was amazing. Silver was struck by it every time she went. It was surrounded by trees with a path leading down from campus. When you entered the clearing from the path, slightly to the left was a gazebo where the drinks, food and speakers were kept. To either side was the main party area where you could drink. A river ran through the clearing so within 30ft of the edge of the bank, which was a 50ft drop to the water, was a no drink zone. Every year students repainted the line that the people who’d had a drink couldn’t cross. There were two ladders going down the bank. One to the ledge, which was a rock jutting out from the bank that could hold about ten people, also a no drink zone. The other ladder goes to ‘the beach’, a smallish section of dry land at the bottom next to the water, used mainly in the spring for river parties. River parties are where everyone comes in a bathing suit and brings inertubes and it’s like a beach day at school. The river around the beach didn’t have a very strong current and was only seven feet at its deepest. If you looked off down the river you’d see a bridge, called the Bridge of Queens. Traditionally only the homecoming queen knew how to get there, and she could only bring one other person with her. Silver wanted to see the bridge, walk on it for real and not just dream about it. On homecoming night is always lit up with thousands of twinkling lights as a right of passage from old queen to new queen.

Silver stepped into the clearing flanked by Damien and Torrie. The party was in full swing and some kids were already drunk.

“Oh, I missed this!” Torrie exclaimed and ran off to the gazebo for her first, and certainly not her last, drink. Torrie drank a lot, at almost every party; she was drunk to the point of puking. Silver drank a little, but rarely ever got super drunk. Damien almost never drank. He said it just made you stupid and act like a whore.

“Dibs on not dragging her home tonight” Damien said. Silver laughed, until she saw Damon staggering towards her. He was pretty far gone already.

“hhhhheyyyyyyy bbbbaaaabbbbbeeeee” he slurred, putting an arm around her shoulders.

“Damon get off me.” She grumbled, and shot Damien a help-me look.

Damien picked Damon’s arm off of her shoulders.

“She said get off” he said protectively.

“Yyooouuuu tryyyyin’ to sttttarttt sooooomethiiing faggggggoooot” Damon slurred angrily.
