Chapter 25 (Maika POV)
‘Tonight’s the night’ Maika thought. He’d planned it out carefully. Tonight was the night he was asking Silver to prom. It was mid-March so the tempature was mild enough to go outside. He did a quick check-over.
“You look fine” Damien said from his bed.
Maika took one last look at his jeans, Nikes, grey pullover, and slipped a small velvet box in his pocket.
“Why are you so nervous? You’ve been dating S for like months now, she’s not going to reject you” Damien rolled his eyes from behind the latest issue of Vogue.
“Hey, it’s nerve-wracking asking a girl to prom. Like if you asked Spark to prom, wouldn’t you get nervous?” Maika said.
“Well, I get asked to prom, I don’t do the asking” Damien flipped the page, pretending to be uninterested.
“Oh really?” Maika questioned.
“Yup, I’ve been out of the closet since middle school. I’m usually the one to be asked because half the time, I didn’t even realize they were gay” Damien smirked.
“Well wether you know the girl is in love with you or not, its still scary to ask her to prom. Plus, I’ve got it all planned out; it’s a total surprise, I told her I had to type an essay tonight” Maika smiled.
“Wow, you are so lovesick” Damien said, smiling back.
“Shut up man” Maika said, before checking one more time.
“Just go!” Damien half-yelled.
“Ok ok! See ya” Maika slipped out the door.
He knew the walk to Silver’s dorm like the back of his hand. He nervously turned the velvet box over and over in his pocket, and hoped to god everything went perfect. As he passed the fountain he remembered the time he’d stood up there and told off Damon. And the time last week when he’d tripped and fallen in, Silver had laughed at him dripping wet and Damien still hadn’t let him live it down. Spark kind of hung on the fringe, just staring. Maika had been so caught up in memories he didn’t realize he was in front of the girls’ dorm. He snapped out of it just in time. He pulled open the door to the lobby and looked over his shoulder. It was a full moon tonight, and his first one on just enough moonstone. He’d had to cut down for the P.E.A.’s suspicions.
“Hey, you. What are you doing here?” a burly voice asked. Maika turned to face a P.E.A. agent.
“Oh um… I was going to ask my girlfriend to prom, sir” Maika said, a little scared he wasn’t on full moonstone so any raw meat would send him crazy.
“Oh, well good luck boy” the P.E.A. agent smiled.
“Thank you sir” Maika rushed past him and up the stairs. That was way too close. He stopped right in front of her door.
‘This is it’ he thought and knocked.
(Silver POV)
Silver sat down on the edge of the Bridge of Queens. She hadn’t been down here in awhile. It always reminded her of Maika, they’d shared their first kiss there. Silver happily recalled the kiss; Maika had succeeded, she’d remember it forever. She was happy to get some alone time, Maika had to type an essay tonight anyway, otherwise she’d probably be kissing him right now. He wasn’t the only one she felt closer to on the bridge; Silver also felt closer to Beth.
“Hey Beth. I miss you. you know, I’ve made a little peace with your death. Maika gave me this idea,, and I think you’ll like it. I want to paint you and Xav, and everyone that died that day a mural in the subway station. I’m talking to the city next week. I hope you like it. Yes, I’m sure you want to know how Maika’s doing; he’s amazing. I’m really in love with him Beth. I think we have what you and Xav have. My bruises are finally gone. You had no idea what Damon could do, so don’t worry, I don’t blame you for what happened. Hell, I only blame myself. No matter what Maika’s werewolf side tries to tell him it’s his fault, it’ll never be his either. Hope you like the sunflowers you got on Valentine’s Day” Silver smiled.
