Chapter 12 (Maika POV)
The next morning, well more like two hours, Maika woke up.
‘Was that a dream?’ he wondered, but then he saw her hair tie on the floor. The one she’d beat him at the hair tie game with, he got out of bed, picked it up, and slipped it on his wrist.
‘As a reminder’ Maika thought.
He had a decision to make. Now that he opened up to her, he had to either forget about or put her in danger. His mind battled throughout his shower, getting dressed and walking to breakfast. Then he saw her. She had on a long light blue tunic, black tights, boots and a belt that hugged her waist perfectly.
He couldn’t stay away from her, not even if he wanted to.
“Silver” he called. She looked his way, and smiled. Her smile was breathtaking.
“Hey Maika, long time no see.” she joked.
“Ok I’m going to say this before I can stop myself, I wanna be friends. I mean, I feel like I can really be myself with you. I had so much fun last night and you’re just awesome to be around. I guess I just want someone like you as a friend, or more.” Maika said quickly.
‘Oh shit’ he thought ‘the last part slipped’.
Silver laughed. “You know, I had fun with you too. I’m glad you finally decided to tear down whatever wall you had up. And for the last part, on Damon’s behalf, I’m going to pretend I didn’t hear that.”
“It’s true though” Maika said involuntarily.
“I’d be lying to say it hasn’t crossed my mind.” Silver blushed, then her smile quickly fell.
“Maika, I’ll talk to you in art. Ok? See ya…” she avoided his eyes, and walked off, towards Damon.
“What the hell? It’s a new guy every week isn’t it?” he heard Damon yell. Maika couldn’t hear Silver’s hushed reply, but she was shaking her head.
“He made you blush. That’s not ‘just a friend’” Damon said, loud enough for the entire quad to hear.
Maika turned in disgust.
How could Damon not realize how special Silver is? And why would Silver stay with him?
Damien had his theory, of course. He thought that Silver stayed with Damon because Beth picked him out for her. Maika hoped she’d change the mind.
As he was walking he passed the kitchen.
Raw meat.
The smell hit his senses like a truck. His eyes dilated, and his canines sharpened a little. The full moon was tomorrow, and the smell was intoxicating, irresistible, and mind-consuming. Maika stumbled blindly towards the door. When he peeked in, all of the cooks were gone but they’d left fresh, raw, hamburger meat on the counter.
The wolf wanted it so bad.
So bad.
It could almost taste it. Raw, delicious meat. He grabbed a handful and stuffed it into his mouth. The wolf loved every last, bloody bit. It begged for more. It was all right there, in front of him, an arms length away…
‘Control” Maika thought as he struggled to regain it. The wolf’s need was impossible to ignore.
‘Silver’ the image of her stopped the wolf in its tracks.
He wasn’t stupid though, he knew it would come back. He grabbed a trash bag and shoved the meat and some ice from the freezer in it. The wolf would want to tear and eat. It could tear the trash bag and eat the meat. Simple and no one got hurt. Maika slung the bag over his shoulder and ran off into the woods before anyone could see him.
(Silver POV)
“God Damon, Maika is just a friend.” Silver rolled her eyes.
They were fighting like this all the time. What if Beth’s choice wasn’t right? She liked Maika, a whole lot more after last night, but Damon was like the last of Beth’s advice.
He was going on and on about basically how much of a slut she was, even though she was a virgin.
“Damon, I don’t sleep around like SOME of us. Who slept with Torrie. Who’s the slut?” she fumed.
“I didn’t sleep with her!” Damon pushed his hair back in frustration.
“Screw this I’m done.” Silver turned and walked away.
It was going to be a long day, Damien was gone till tonight.
“Fuck you bitch.” Damon called after her. Silver held her head high, but she died inside.
She sulked throughout the day, bitching at everyone and just wanting to be alone. Only memories of last night kept her going. When she strode into art, Maika beamed at her.
“Hey” he said brightly.
“Hey” she grumbled.
“Look, I’m sorry if I put you in a tight spot with Damon. I feel awful.” Maika apologized.
“Don’t. Damon and I fight like this all the time. He thinks I can’t have any guy friends, but he can sleep with Torrie.” Silver sighed.
“You think he actually did that?”
“Yea... well no… I don’t know.” Silver dropped her head into her hands.
“Wanna talk about it?”
“Not here”
“Hm, how about Regressi’s , Friday night, as friends? I wanna talk like we did last night.” Maika said.
Silver smiled, and picked her head up. “Yea, sure. I love Regressi’s.”
With Silver’s mood a bit better they talked happily for the rest of the period, and gym, and study hall.
She was lying on her bed, studying when her door clicked open.
“Hey Tor” she said without looking up from her history book.
“Not Torrie” a very familiar effeminate voice said.
“Damien!” Silver snapped her book shut.
“Hey S, did you miss me?” Damien pulled her into a tight hug.
“Yes, Woodward is horrible without you!” she hugged him back. Silver really needed him here. He was her standing stone, and without him, things got shaky. Exactly like today.
“Without me or without my chocolate from Switzerland?” Damien let go of her to wave a bag of chocolates in her face.
“Oh my god hand them over! I’ve had a shit day.” She tried to snatch them from his hand but he held them above his head.
“What’s the magic word?” he smirked.
“Damien you are a gay sex god, now can I have my chocolate?” she said sarcastically.
“Well, I was thinking more along the lines of please but doting upon my incredibly dashing looks works too.” Damien laughed and handed her the chocolate. Silver greedily tore off one of the wrappers and shoved the chocolate in her mouth.
“So if you’re day was so abominable, you must have a lot to tell me.” He asked without really asking.
“Oh hell yea. Sit” she pointed to a bean bag chair.
