Chapter 22 (Maika POV)

It was a normal morning as Maika, Silver, Damien, Torrie, her new boyfriend Christian, and Spark sat at their table by the windows. Spark and Damien were official now, and Maika had never seen him happier. He rested a hand on Silver’s thigh. She shivered, and his arm immediately went around her shoulders.

“You cold?” he asked, concern obvious across his face.

“Yea” she yawned “Just cold and tired.” Silver rested her head on his shoulder. Maika lightly kissed her hair.

“Maika?”

“Yea?” he asked.

“Where were you last night? You’re super-warm and I was freezing” she smiled.

“You should have told me! I would’ve came to your rescue” Maika joked.

“Oh yea, Captain Stud, it’s got a ring to it” Silver laughed, then shivered again.

“Come here” Maika pulled her into his lap and wrapped his arms around her waist.

“Mmmm you’re warm” she murmured.

“You would know.”

“Maika!” Silver hit his arm. They’d spent every night that Torrie wasn’t there in her room. Maika loved the feeling of waking up with her in his arms and he was pretty sure she enjoyed waking up in them.

“Hey Dam, when’s our English project due?” Silver asked.

“Don’t worry, I finished it; I figured since Maika wasn’t in the room you were otherwise involved” Damien replied, smirking.

Maika felt his cheeks redden, they had been er, busy. He couldn’t understand why the wolf was ok with Silver kissing him, but seemingly no one else.

“Students, please report to the auditorium for an assembly” the announcement rang throughout the cafeteria.

“Wonder what this is all about” Silver wondered out loud.

“I have no idea” Maika said and entwined their fingers as they followed the crowd to the auditorium. The seniors took the back as always.

“Students, I carry grave news” the headmaster said into the microphone once everyone was settled.

“The coriners believe that Miss Jenna Enriquez was killed by an animal.” All of Maika’s muscles went on lockdown.

‘oh shit not now’ he thought. He saw Silver glance at him in worry. She rubbed his arm and squeezed his fingers, still laced with hers. He shot her a look of thanks and she smiled slightly at him.

“So from now on no student shall enter the woods. If you are caught there then you will be suspended from classes from a week. I advise all students to travel in packs, this animal is deadly.” The headmaster finished.

Maika swallowed hard. No one know that the monster was here among them, in the auditorium, holding the homecoming queen’s hand. He guiltily let go of her hand.

“Hey…” she whispered, then saw his face. Maika knew it wore a mask of distraut and guilt.

“Maika, look at me” she hissed. Maika kept his head down.

“Maika Suliken…” she put a hand on his cheek and guided his eyes up. “Don’t you pull away from me. I don’t care what you are. I love you and I’m not going to let some idiot convince you that you’re evil” Silver said, looking his dead in the eyes. God her eyes were beautiful, and they could make him do anything. Maika groaned and fell back in his seat.
